Preview: IndyCar / ALMS Grand Prix of Long Beach

After a boring race in St. Petersburg and a thrilling race in Alabama, the new Indy cars are now operating. Good thing, because on weekends the first highlight of the season is on the agenda.

The Grand Prix of Long Beach is only since 2009, while on the calendar of the IndyCar Series, but is still one of the greatest classics in the current calendar. Because since 1975 will be held in the port and tourist city in the metropolitan region of Greater Los Angeles, a "Grand Prix". First, the formula 1, then the CART series - and since their defeat just the Indy cars. IndyCar: Analysis of Long Beach

A famous saying goes: 1 does it differently and 2 than you think. Under this slogan at the weekend was the annual warm-Indy Car Series at the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach. Even before the race were high expectations geschürrt what the two returnees Paul Tracy and his favorite opponent Sebastian Bourdais certainly were not entirely innocent.

After the free practice, everything still looked as if the weekend to take its usual course. Front drove away to win the two teams in the Death Star in the person of Will Power and Ryan Briscoe 2 training which was followed closely by Ryan Hunter Reay, and the other cars of the two big teams. This trend also continued in qualifying, but in his body no longer as strong as we had expected and only took until the penultimate segment. It managed to Dario Franchitti and Scott Dixon as the 7th and 8 not to qualify for the Firestone Fast 6, since this is the last moment were driven by Justin Wilson. With little surprises and Ryan Briscoe missed the Almost 6 in 12th and last of the 2nd Round, while Will Power from RHR, the strong over aschend Mike Conway, Oriol Servia in aschend of strong NH-Dallara and Justin Wilson was able to secure the poles during the 6 driver Helio completed.

IndyCar Series: Season opener in St. Petersburg

A partly chaotic and partly positive off-season is finally over - on Sunday evening, the IndyCar Series returns to the track. That should be interesting, because since the 2010 final has been done.

A quiet winter break is different: The IndyCar Series championship since the thoughtful decision in Homestead fans and media with a constant flow of news, as is otherwise uncommon even during the current season. CEO Randy Bernard has proven he knows how to deal with the last unremarkable single-seater series caused a sensation. Whether his ideas will work on the track that needs to be seen, though. Nevertheless: The start of the season 25 drivers are available, most of them are probably all year long to be there. A couple of old stars have made it back into the series, albeit sometimes at the last minute. Along with some interesting rookies they bring the IndyCar Series, the most likely starting field since CART times.

Indycar: Chicagoland Preview

For many fans, is what is on the Saturday night program, one of the highlights of the IRL season. Chicagoland Ride Risch is not particularly difficult - but there's always been incredibly close to the point there.

Even otherwise, the IndyCar Series this weekend has a lot to offer: Approximately 29 cars with the largest field that has ever existed outside of the Indy 500. And accordingly, the return of some fan favorites that have been lacking so far this year. In addition, previously such exciting championship enters its final phase. There, the big question will be whether it succeeds Dario Franchitti on the ovals to close the gap on "circuit champion" Will Power. But all is not bliss in the IRL: Behind the scenes, teams covet against the decision already made chassis for 2012.

IRL: Analysis of Long Beach

Exciting what the IRL has offered over the weekend in Long Beach was not exactly. In the end, but still allowed the series to hear of success.

A quarter of the season is over at the Indy now again, and so far the balance is for the faltering race series rather mixed success: Severe organizational problems but a great race in Brazil; rain postponement in St. Petersburg - but then again, a race with a nice duels and many overtaking maneuvers. At Barber Motorsports Park in Alabama's then gave the other extreme: Great organization and many local fans - but the race was pretty boring. And so like it was last weekend, then the classics of Long Beach. That the IndyCar at the end still be happy with the race could lay mainly because that was won by Ryan Hunter-Reay finally "the right".

IRL: Analysis of Alabama, Long Beach Preview

The IRL-trucks roll merrily by the United States: Within a week, the racing series moves from the Barber Motorsports Park in the south on the west coast. There, on Sunday, the classics of Long Beach is on the agenda. Even otherwise, the IRL is in the headlines: today, the new qualifying format for the Indy 500 was introduced.

The IRL had a successful weekend in Alabama: At Barber Motorsports Park were almost 55,000 fans on the spot - again, even more than in Brazil. The ranks were then finally re-stocked even at a race in the United States. The faltering of the racing series succeeds only other in Long Beach and the Indy 500 Lastly, the rates for IRL has increased a little. For Alabama are currently no known figures, but it could be that because of the simultaneously transmitted comeback of Tiger Woods were a little less this time.
