Formula One: Ferrari F2012 first images of the Force India & VJM005

Ferrari and Force India have today unveiled their 2012er chassis. As expected, the cars have not become quite as pretty.

The messages that transpired over the new Ferrari F2012 in Maranello in recent weeks described the car, especially as "ugly". Well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but unusually, the new Ferrari is in any case. The stairs to the crocodile's nose is steep, less flattened, as is perhaps the Caterham or Force India, the case. Even before the presentation was clear, that would show this season, many drivers of this feature, but the level then to actually see, but what is different. Reminder: The stage comes from the new FIA regulations, which prescribes a maximum height of the tip of 550mm above the floor plate, while the end of the monocoque should have a height of 650mm. Solve the problem most teams with a stage, apart from McLaren, go to a markedly different way. Here they built the entire vehicle including monocoque lower, which has allowed a flat nose. More details may be found at ScarbsF1 . Pay particular attention to the first photo with the yellow arrows. HD videos and other images after the jump.

In addition to the front stage are very much on the back long covered ridges of the front wing mount. Used to make the air clean in the nose and prevent turbulence and lead to further Luftleitbeche below the nose. Unlike McLaren is dispensed at least in the version shown on a horizontal bar. Whether the variant shown is the last word? The solution of Ferrari convinced at first sight, any more than that of Caterham. There are, however, later to see some interesting. Very striking is the second air shaft behind the actual air intake for the engine. You just wondering what Ferrari has so ago. Additional cooling for the KERS, because the side pods have become so small? A kind of passive Q-duct system for the lower area of the rear wing? Compressed air to the diffuser?
The side boxes show some innovative solutions. The inlet ducts are remarkably small, it has the ends together with the exhaust is pulled back very far and end up a pretty swing make. Also interesting is that the exterior side boxes are slightly elevated, which has been copied to one from last year's McLaren.

Interesting are the various solutions for the front suspension. Ferarri does something else, as Force India and McLaren. Further analysis is also to Racecar Engineering , wondering also about some details.

Force India

The VJM005 of Force India looks at first glance, apart from the nose, rather ordinary. In the area of the front suspension it is a different way than Ferrari. Also, you did not choose such a hard stage such as Ferrari, but rather has gone the way of Caterham. Under the nose there are two baffles, but the bars are by far not developed as clearly as the Ferrari.

Exciting is the front view of the car, in the notice, how narrow is the chassis, including side pods. The air intakes are significantly smaller than at McLaren, who are also traveling with a Mercedes engine. The side pods are but not so tightly constricted as with other teams. Here it is obviously a compromise entered into.

In terms of hedge can be little to say at first glance. The exhaust looks pretty unmotivated out of the rear bodywork, which makes me appreciate more that will accrue Force India, still in testing with other covers. Everyone tries the exhaust gases to use this year but somehow, the most innovative solution at the moment seems to have Ferrari. But this one will not do anything.

Like last year, the Force India has fallen rather unimpressive, but this must mean nothing, as we saw last year.

Ferrari on the side there is a video with Nikolas Tombazis, in which he explains the car. The second air shaft above should therefore be for part of the cooler. It has probably moved some of the cooler into the back to get the slim side pods.
