Best of 2011 - Part 3

The season is over - for racing overall a year of ups and downs. A personal look back to 2011.

Like every year, the racing looks back on the blog team racing 2011 season and picked out the raisins. The personal flashbacks appear further in the coming days.

Best race: There were some races this year, but none were so intense and remained so in my memory like the Chase Race NASCAR and the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

In NASCAR, it is of course the absolute madness race in Homestead, which one may wish for more of a finale? I can not think of anything. The absolute Cinderella Story by Tony-"I was in the regular season winning any races, but waiting times at the Chase" Stewart, who was actually out with a fist big hole in the grille, it then but still managed to do what He had to. He won the race ahead of Edwards, the only sure way to get the championship. The whole race was an incredible tension in the air that ESPN did not trust himself to destroy too many commercial breaks. Very very big race is one of the top 5 of my life.

The 24 Hours of Le Mans were just as intense as the last few years. It's crazy how the long-distance races have developed in general. The sprint races are always, it is practically gone all the time full. To what can this lead, you've seen on the two major accidents in the Audi Le Mans. All the more impressive it was to see in the sequel as the Peugeot tried the only remaining to Audi, "to rush to death" and this then makes the impossible possible and win. This was again very, very big race.

Best finish: Here I fall spontaneously, the Indy 500 and the IndyCar in Kentucky, where you can see both races, especially the Indy 500 after the events of Las Vegas from a different angle. That is why I am here the Formula 1 race in Canada, as Button overtakes Vettel in the final round after a small mistake and still win the race. And not forgetting of course the NASCAR super speedways were also on the always great.

Best driver Sebastian Vettel, no discussion. He dominated the entire field, including his teammates all season and only made a small mistake in Kanda. This massive reduction in its error rate and the time almost technically trouble-free car (up to KERS) have secured him the early winning the championship. Simply a magnificent season from him.

Best team: If I can not really quite difficult. Red Bull was good, but Mark Webber is also on the team and the performance was not really convincing. Nevertheless, it is what the team has convinced me the most.

Overtaking of the Year: Mark Webber, Alonso at Spa beginning of the Eau Rouge was overtaken, and worthy of even a very starkesm spektakukäres maneuvers.

Enemies / duel of the year

In this category I have to distribute 3 prizes:

First The nursery price ...

Of course ... goes to Lewis Hamilton and Felippe Massa, the number of races of the season passed without abzufahren not adjacent carbon parts in the value of mid-size sedan and then assign to return mail to the following interview each other to blame. That F1 does not move with touring and formula cars Stockccars but was highly sensitive, you stupidly also only ever in these interviews. Can be a bit more space, you could have two results in some races better bestowed, Massa would have at least urgently needed.

Second The "The world is against us" price ...

Goes to ... the two Busch brothers from Las Vegas. Kyle Busch, his emotions are still not under control and not even more in a truck race for half a second think before he does anything and Kurt Busch, who can not control himself and a tirade against Jerry uhhh Dr. Jerry Punch from the stack, can When the camera moves along. Kurt Busch goes from now on in psychological treatment, whether that takes what remains to be seen. The sponsors were funny and made the action less pressure. Roger Penske threw separated by Kurt Busch by mutual agreement. Joe Gibbs did not care what they said Kyle Busch's sponsors to action in the truck race at Texas, and paid the last two Cup races from their own pockets, instead of replacing it. To be continued in 2012.

Third Duel of the year ...

Of course ... was clearly against Stewart Edwards. This was a duel to the very high level with a very memorable and a fantastic last race Chase. Before one can only salute as they are fairly dealt with each other and what they have done and the respective teams.

Scene of the Year:

Will power is something unintelligible except to start after the decision of the IndyCar Race Control at the races in Loudon and again, resulting in an accident which resulted, among other things, with his participation. Rumor has it then had several NBC employees are hospitalized, but now you are going well again because of heart problems.

Cost of the year: Aston Martin's race in Le Mans. I rarely believe a company has in racing so much for so little money burned counted, such as Aston Martin in their attempt to the 24h of Le Mans to contest. The engine was a total flop and was about as long as the transmission of Kyle Busch at Homestead, but what was clear even before Le Mans. Rather than pull the car back, and to avoid the utter disgrace and burning more money, they came, saw and went broke. This resulted then in 56 starters at the positions 55 and 56 We managed a total of 6 rounds and a two-digit million amount ...

Best moment of the year: Find me very hard, Franz Engstlers victory in the WTCC was great, but enough for the most beautiful moment of the year? Perhaps the surprising victory after much drama of Audi at Le Mans? I do not know, but something else occurs to me.

Surprise of the Year: A devout young man (no, not Tim Tebow) named Trevor Bayne wins the Daytona 500 Too bad Mr. Hildebrandt, they would not have thrown away their car in the last turn of the Indy 500, they would stand here as a surprise of the year.

Disappointment of the year: the Williams. Very much unrest in the team and get a bad car, and therefore poor results. The result is a completely messed up season. That is until now needs to undertake a second driver, after the number has even decreased slightly Raikönnen backfires, does not exactly make a good impression.

Langweiligstes race: Same procedure as every year: the Grand Prix of Valencia and NASCAR Pocono ** snoring * dream * ... ** turnleft

Race Control Moment of the Year: The decision of the IndyCar Race Control, the race in Loudon to start again, although there were only 9 laps and you all said that the route was impassable. It came as it had. Patrick lost his car and caused a major accident Außmaßes after the race but was canceled. After the season had been constantly under fire, they fell thereafter really in the firing line. Will Power made a significant gesture in the direction of the racing line (see above).

Fortune Cookie of the Year: Mike Rockenfeller at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. That he made this really a broken car almost completely emerged without a scratch, is a small miracle. Alan McNish had about as much luck.

Wishes for 2011: An exciting and just a motorsport year, which is exempt from bad events like this year.

Finally, a thank you to Don for the opportunity here this year to participate, the other authors of the many mail exchange (and Yammer calls and podcast debriefing) and of course the readers of the blog, whether too quiet or active in chat and in the comments! In a good year 2012!
