Best of 2011 - Part 2

The season is over - for racing overall a year of ups and downs. A personal look back to 2011.

Like every year, the racing looks back on the blog team racing 2011 season and picked out the raisins. The personal flashbacks appear further in the coming days.

Best race
It's always difficult after such a long season, but on my list of the 24 Hours of Le Mans are the very top. The race really had everything you could want in a race, if one disregards the serious accidents. I still remember, as with anxious glance at the monitor, staring where the wreck was destroyed guessed at dimly by Rockefeller. In retrospect, everything went well and the accident of losing their terror. They make even a little evidence that the drama in retrospect is even greater. And like every year we can not imagine that the 24 hours may be even more exciting.
Formula One also had some good races, but the very top is probably the Canadian GP, which was one of unbridled Jenson Button all go into the ground. A ride that you can look in many years. (Minus the 2 hour break).
The BTCC had to offer some exciting races, got stuck in my head are me, especially the last two races at Knockhill where Jason Plato only caused a sensation of being shot down by a "gypsy" (quote Plato) by then. Far above is the sensational race of the ALMS at Road Atlanta that Muscle Milk ultra scarce could decide for themselves.

Best Finish
Normally, one would have to take the last race of NASCAR in Homestead, the list of the best races, but it fits better in this category yet. Better for the last race could hardly be. With strange strategy calls, comebacks and a finish in which the two title contenders roamed around long around the course. Sensational, what Stewart and Edwards had just delivered. Also great was the finish of the second WTCC race at Zolder, where seat-man Tarquini managed to keep the Chevy armada behind. Wonderful also the victory of Franz Engstler at Oschersleben.
The Indy also gave off some good finishing lines, including the victory of Ed Carpenter in Kentucky for the chronically under-funded team of Sarah Fisher.

Best driver
One of the most difficult issues in a year, at times it has so often only the top riders in mind. But you will not come this year by around Vettel. He has done a perfect season, has more to say. But it is not alone today at the driving skills, but also about how much a driver in his team creates its place and there are networked. And here you have to give Vettel a rating of "1". He Webber, who is so much longer in the team, replaced loosely.
A second driver, I want to mention full of praise: Martin Tomczyk. Are Audi's, after several unsuccessful years, "B-Team" and then deported with anger inside but to master. Good performance, we also saw how much potential Tomczyk.

Best team
The logical answer would have to "Red Bull" hot. I agree but for Audi Motorsport. They have brought a completely new car with new materials at the start and thus a highly regarded run victory at Le Mans out. And even though you had to deal with two serious accidents. This is the rest of the year, lost all the races, however, is more than a beauty spot. However - for the performance of the new Audi R18 deserves a prize.

Overtaking of the Year
With all the DRS, it is difficult maneuvers, "the" overtaking find. A highlight was the duel between Hamilton and Button in Turkey.

Friends of the Year
Since there is no doubt that Massa and Hamilton have earned by far # 1.

Enemies / duel of the year
No fights in NASCAR, but many, many skirmishes. Above all, Kyle Busch and the stewards were not friends, then the last thing with Ron Hornaday.

Scene of the Year
The carbon in its individual parts are dismantled Audi R18 with Alan McNish at the wheel.

Cost of the year
The "hot blown diffuser" in F1. After it was clear that the FIA did not prohibit it, had to upgrade all the teams. This meant a completely redesigned exhaust management, new tail, new diffuser, new underbody and other parts. And all this for half a season.

Best moment of the year
The victory of Ed Carprenter against Dario Franchitti. And the good news, if there were accidents.

Surprise of the Year
The poor performance by Mark Webber was for me the surprise of the year. We are guessing yes since March, why Webber had so little chance of its shape can not be there. Another surprise was the NASCAR title for Tony Stewart. After a bad 2010, I would have laughed if someone had told me in February that Stewart will dominate the chase. Terrific team performance.

Disappointment of the Year
Presumably, he is still dreaming of it: JR Hildebrandt's crash on the last corner of the final lap of the Indy 500, when he succeeded without much pressure with distance from the runner-up is to have an accident. You can see that not every day.
Disappointing was the performance of Mercedes in F1. One has to make a step forward in 2011, the new car again a flop. Basically, it was even worse in 2011 than in 2010, when one looks at the points.

Langweiligstes race
Valencia, Pocono. As always.

Race Control Moment of the Year
Of these, the DTM was again very much, but this one is so accustomed to. Memorable, however, the decision by Brian Barnhard be in the IndyCar, as his men in the race in Loudon just start flowing again left. The result looked like this:

Fortune Cookie of the Year
All the photographers in the accident of McNish. Border on a miracle that nothing happened.

Proverbs of the Year
"Raikkonen as the debriefing will not last long!" (Alex Wurz)
"I followed him to the middle of the race about 25 laps. I think he has touched all the barriers around the course. "(Mark Webber Kobayashi driving in Monaco)
"The people I have sometimes thought to be a clone of Ron. Ron himself also. "(Martin Whitmarsh about yourself)
"Florida drivers either drive like Michael Schumacher or Milka Duno ... There is no in between!" (Alex Lloyd)
"Just had a rain storm in Montreal but now the sun is out again. Weather changes quicker than Bernie changes his mind "Adam Cooper complains about the weather.

Wishes for 2012
A great debut season for the WEC. The Red Bull someone catches. A DTM that is worthy of the name again. And no serious accidents.
