Best of 2011 - Part 2

The season is over - for racing overall a year of ups and downs. A personal look back to 2011.

Like every year, the racing looks back on the blog team racing 2011 season and picked out the raisins. The personal flashbacks appear further in the coming days.

Best race
It's always difficult after such a long season, but on my list of the 24 Hours of Le Mans are the very top. The race really had everything you could want in a race, if one disregards the serious accidents. I still remember, as with anxious glance at the monitor, staring where the wreck was destroyed guessed at dimly by Rockefeller. In retrospect, everything went well and the accident of losing their terror. They make even a little evidence that the drama in retrospect is even greater. And like every year we can not imagine that the 24 hours may be even more exciting.
Formula One also had some good races, but the very top is probably the Canadian GP, which was one of unbridled Jenson Button all go into the ground. A ride that you can look in many years. (Minus the 2 hour break).
The BTCC had to offer some exciting races, got stuck in my head are me, especially the last two races at Knockhill where Jason Plato only caused a sensation of being shot down by a "gypsy" (quote Plato) by then. Far above is the sensational race of the ALMS at Road Atlanta that Muscle Milk ultra scarce could decide for themselves.

Best of 2011 - Part 1

The season is over - for racing overall a year of ups and downs. A personal look back to 2011.

Like every year, the racing looks back on the blog team racing 2011 season and picked out the raisins. The personal flashbacks appear further in the coming days.

Best race

After many years of complaints about boring race was 2011 the year of change for Formula 1 - "Overtaking Working Group" which has for the less successful experiments with KERS this year found the right direction. The combination of DRS, KERS and new, imperfect Pirelli tires worked wonders - now also runs on infamous tracks like Silverstone and Barcelona took a sudden voltage. That the combination does not work everywhere, however, showed Valencia (see below) - and the race towards the end anlieferte the year, when suddenly durable Pirelli tires.
But despite all the progress: The most exciting race was the year for me (as a rather cursory observer of the series) of the final NASCAR race in Homestead, as it (almost) until the last lap was exciting. In addition, gratifying that not only proved a worthy winner Tony Stewart, Carl Edwards, but also at least as good loser.

Issue number 8 of the Racing Blog podcast.

This week we go through some news including the line-up changes in NASCAR and a few rumors out of Formula One. We also take a look at the WEC and the new Audi. For a better understanding of what we are talking about the R18, I've included a few recent pictures. Unfortunately, once again spun the recording software, so it's slightly "medium wave" ;)

Have fun with the current podcast and look forward to further criticism and wishes!

IndyCar: 2011 season review

The "gap year" before the arrival of the new car took a tragic end in October. By the start of the season has to overcome the IndyCar are some problems.

Randy Bernard's first "real" year at the helm of the IndyCar Series is over. Was before the terrible finale in Las Vegas in 2011, especially a season of experimentation. The new executive floor dug all kinds of new, old and very old ideas from the quiver that we wanted to try before the big reboot 2012th The conclusion to double-file restarts, twin races and World Championships in Las Vegas is also off the tragedy of a little lean. After all, the TV ratings, albeit at a low level, a little stabilized. Probably because were in the shade of some misguided elements show again this year provided some exciting racing and a surprising winner. The plans for the coming year, the events in Las Vegas once again mixed up - to date there is no such full calendar for 2012. The new car is still some problems. But at least this could prove to be a lucky accident in - through the many changes the usual pecking order could in fact finally fallen apart.

WTCC: The blue years

The FIA World Touring Car Championship of 2011 was not a good year. Little cars, little competition, little variety. We must thank Chevrolet yet.

Actually, you can deal with the WTCC this year in two sentences: Chevrolet wins behind everyone else go. Basically, this is unfortunately true, but if you go into detail, I do agree, not quite. Sure, the Cruze was the car that could not be beat, but he was also the only car factory, who had been on the show. However, BMW and Seat reach at least a couple earns respect, which should not be forgotten. Sure, the "breadcrumbs" are, where you had to hold this year. It is also clear that the WTCC in the mold can not survive. It has to happen something, and it does seem well.

BTCC: The 2011 season

Actually, it was clear even before the season, who will champion this year. But a number of rule changes were responsible for a decision but that fell at the last race.

The 2011 season saw the BTCC in a fairly wide-ranging review, which should make for some confusion, however. The TOCA behind the BTCC had, in recent years, a class of its own succession plans for the vehicles that were following the regulations of the FIA S2000 in England on the road. The acquisition of the S2000 had the advantage that manufacturers could use their cars in the world. Although the FIA had also bolted to the rules and introduced the 1.6 liter turbo / engine world, but that was the BTCC. Because of the high cost of the S2000, which caused many starters for sparse field, it was decided to introduce a separate formula. The NGTC has its own chassis that was developed by the TOCA, and for the most part, a unit chassis for the entire series. With the engine, it was decided to occupy a 2-liter turbocharged engine set. And that's what leads to anger, not only in the BTCC.

Also-rans: The news bites for 14:12

/ / The entire theater has still found a happy ending: The Formula 1 is (likely to) 2012 on the "Circuit of the Americas" in Austin, Texas, to be launched. The new track owners have signed the night before the meeting of the FIA World Motor Sport Council signed a contract with Bernie Ecclestone, who obviously satisfies both sides. Remains to be seen whether the construction process can be completed at the track really until November of next year - but currently seem to go out all sides of it. If you believe the statements, which is the slowest part, namely the laying of underground bases already completed - the rest (buildings, track surface, bleachers) is reportedly feasible until November 2012. The two races in Bahrain and Korea, which had previously been considered shaky candidates stand until further notice on the plan. (Caution)

/ / A little surprise at Lotus: Instead of the long suspected as set Vitaly Petov Romain Grosjean, the second car will be driving alongside Kimi Raikkonen. The reigning GP2 champion to get a second chance in the premier class after he was able to impress on his first attempt at a few races in 2009 due to the release of Nelson Piquet Jr. in moderation. F3 Euro: Fantastrilliarden viewers

Each year, the PR agency out of the F3 Euro Series selbstbelobende a press release. I can deny anyone.

"2011 Formula 3 Euro Series was already in its ninth season. Over the years, was the young series in motorsports as a talent scout for the DTM and Formula 1 driver to establish such. Lewis Hamilton, Timo Glock, Nico Rosberg, Sebastian Vettel and Edoardo Mortara and Jamie Green are only a few young pilots who are successful from the Formula 3 Euro Series has gone up.

In Germany, almost 23 hours of free TV from all nine race weekends have been reported. Again transferred to the news channel n-tv to the first and the third round live. SPORT1 reported in addition to its motorsports-formats on the junior series. In total, 22.62 million viewers in Germany watched the chase for best times, an average of two German TV stations broadcasted the hours of 2:32 race tracks in England, France, Holland, Austria, Spain and Germany. Outside Germany, the Formula 3 Euro Series in 2011 was again very popular. 33 television stations in other European countries reported a technical reach of 85.5 million households, 784 hours on the most competitive young-gun series.

In addition to the TV coverage, all sessions of the Formula 3 Euro Series on the Internet via live timing will be prosecuted. The official website of the Formula 3 Euro Series, www.f3euroseries.com, recorded 4.5 million page impressions, with an average of 371 000 page views a month.

The figures in the print media shows that the Formula 3 Euro Series lot of attention is given to the world. In Germany alone, 457 items appeared with a printed total circulation of 151 million readers. In addition, 1522 international reports have been published with a circulation of 129 million readers.

Of the nine race weekends in the 2011 season, it attracted a total of 535 500 spectators at the race tracks. Thus were on average 59 500 visitors per event site. "

I prefer to say nothing.

Formula One: Review 2011 - The driver

Which driver has surprised this year, which failed to meet expectations? A look at the drivers and their 2012 season.

After review of the team, now followed by an evaluation of the driver. It is slightly unfair, because almost all the drivers who drive in Formula One, are exceptional players. Who once had the good fortune (as I did in Spa) to sit in a simulator that can begin to understand what one must do as a pilot today. Even the start-up is an art in itself, but it was still not. Drivers must constantly be on the road fast (ie in the tenth range), while they talk to their engineers, give feedback, get answers, take care of the DRS, the KERS, the brake force distribution, the mixture adjustment and other things. And now and then they have to fight one more time against an opponent. You have to pay because all drivers have a lot of respect. However, without evaluation, it is not, of course, so here are our estimate of the riders from the 2011 season.
