What a little rain but can make a race. 10 minutes was sufficient to provide a lot of fun.
In yesterday's preview I wrote "It is fashionable rain, but no one yet knows whether and if so, how much it will rain. That could give the necessary spice to the race, the fans are hoping for. "The Formula One has done or consequence, because the race was definitely the better this year. This was also the fact that Mark Webber, Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso a very busy afternoon in Australia and had provided for a great show. Interestingly, there were supposedly on the light line and a lot of technical failures.
The start was chaotic, as expected, because it was wet, so that all the intermediates were reared. Vettel pulled off the front, but behind him, Alonso had a disaster start and did not really move. But Massa and Kubica came off sensational and the Ferrari driver Mark Webber grabbed even more. Behind it was then too small. Button pushed to Alonso, who turned and blocked the way of Schumacher. Although the more about the area, but since he destroyed himself to his front wing. A few bends Kobayashi took off for the third time this weekend, his wing and raced unchecked through the field. He hit just Hulkenberg pretty amidships, but went out glmipflich accident. Still had to get out the safety car, which unfortunately prevented more action on the opening laps.
After restart it was then the weather, which played a role. The rain had cleared and it was very clear that it would soon be a dry track. The question was simply, if the weather would hold and when it was dry enough. Normally, a dare the backbenchers and the rest to see how it happens, but this time it was Jenson Button, who was already in the sixth round rear slicks. Honestly, I thought after he also missed the first three in turn braking point, that the race was over for him. But the Briton was wiser than all the other drivers, engineers and strategists of the entire racing world. His decision was the right one, came at the best possible time and he continued to perfect. Of course, he was lucky that it stops raining. He would not have been the first who came in a tad early, but in this case it was a perfect fit. And unlike all the other drivers, he had the courage (and freedom) to make the decision independently. He could also win in the end, however, was not to his credit.
Vettel had the race comfortably under control. He had enough distance to the rear and because he was leading, he brought Reb Bull logischerweisde as the first two rounds on the button box. Mark Webber, who was second, had to wait for one turn, which destroyed his race completely. As the rest of the world also has switched on lap 8 had, he took the competition over 3 seconds and Webber found himself in fourth place again. And somewhere in between sneaked around Robert Kubica, whose Renault went amazingly well.
Further back, it went from that. Fernando Alonso shaved through the field. Our colleagues in the slower car seemed to do almost voluntarily place and so Alonso emerged very quickly in the top 10. Michael Schumacher did on the other hand very hard and stayed in the race long after Alguersuari in the Toro Rosso hang. And then you could already see the speed difference between the Mercedes and the Ferrari. Where Alonso went to work quickly, accurately Schumacher missed the half-second that he should have been faster. No wonder that Ross Brawn was able to find only at the end of fasting, that the car was just too slow. In the end, squeezed past Schumacher in a violent action on the Toro Rosso and landed a spot so still.
Nico Rosberg fared better, he spent the entire time course always between four and seven. Although one must say that you could not get the impression that a lot of Rosberg went forward. On the contrary. To Kubica, he could not catch up, the Ferrari was also duped him out of reach then Lewis Hamilton, who in turn 11 fast overtaking the outside. Later, Mark Webber also rushed past him. [The BBC commented Eddie Jordon the scene sardonically that Webber missed his colleague Rosberg nicknamed "Britney" [Spears] did].
Actually, Rosberg was so behind Button, Kubica, Massa, Alonso, Hamilton and Webber in 7th place and Mercedes belongs probably also just out there. Norbert Haug wagging after the race but with the time sheet and the second fastest lap of the race, but it's not just only about the pure speed, but the Konstantz in lap times and there are other teams better.
The Ferrari disappointed somewhat. Voting in favor Massa's front and back, and he does not quite slipped through the area. Alonso was clearly faster, at least he was halfway through the race again behind the Brazilians, but not passed by the Spaniards. But he hastened to say after the race that he would never come over, because his tires were over. It looked in the race but partially different.
There was more anger at McLaren - Hamilton had not exactly have his best week, as we saw in the qualification. While Button took the risk to come very early, Hamilton taught after the pit radio. Towards the end of the race he was in third place behind Kubica and Button. But then they took him in and he fell behind both Ferraris and Rosberg. Why McLaren has so decided, is beyond me. H Amilton scolded during the race by radio boxes and clearly said after the race, what would he think of the decision After all -. By button for 51 laps with a set of tires and set on end, and good times. Obviously he had threatened to break in at McLaren but the feeling that the rear tire of Hamilton because of the chase were done, or at the end of the race. Nevertheless - a wrong decision. Outside rather stay and wait, because even with gnawed tire is a McLaren in a position to stay ahead. The accident with Webber was then the only consequence of the bad decision.
Unlucky was the race course, Sebastian Vettel - did everything right and still lost. But it is not necessarily technical inadequacies that lie at the Red Bull. For a faulty spark plug you can not, in Australia probably had the wheel nut jammed in rearing. So she was stuck, but not right on the axis. But why then explodes into a disc, I would like to get even explain it again. The criticism of Red Bull will be massive, at least in Germany. Even the tabloids keep up with words like "cucumber Auto", but that will not long remain so. Vettel could easily lead the World Cup, instead he is far behind them.
- Both Virgin failed. At the weekend it was announced that the Virgin of the tank is too small to hold a race through. Designer Nick Wirth made the FIA responsible because of material strengths and wanted to drive that high-density gasoline, then that would have fit. What is nonsense, of course, now has the entire Virgin car rebuild - or in other words. Season ruined. Comes in a bigger tank, he messed up the balance, the bad, you only get crappy data for next year.
- Trulli failed to start due to a hydraulic damage, but Kovalainen came through. Senna was, but - surprise - in the second race without testing the dragged Chandhok HRT with 5 laps to the finish.
- Barrichello the important points accumulated as a "best of the rest" once and for Williams
- Sutil was a fault in the engine management, Luizzi ran again and won a race unagitated points.
- De la Rosa was at first points at the end so the tires were out that he had to pull Schumacher.
The race was quite handsome, pretty much what you wish for a race in Formula One. A "thriller" it was not, not a "crime" because it did too little in front, but it was varied, exciting and beautiful to see. We see also that a second pit stop the race could well make it interesting. Perhaps we should think about introducing these pits. It improves the strategic possibilities enormously.
Was the view of the tire wear, it was interesting to see which drivers and teams who go through the race almost. Ferrari, Renault and McLaren to create the button without any problems, Hamilton has problems and goes as expected from Mercedes, it does not seem as good. Particularly in view of the McLaren's interesting, because that button is obviously favors unique. Hamilton has problems with the careful tuning and race has its soft button with driving significant benefits on routes that require the tires. If a second mandatory stop coming, then again, the play into the hands of Hamilton.
- Driver of the race -> Robert Kubica, who hoisted the Renault on 2
- Losers of the race -> Michael Schumacher, who did not come to pass Alguersuari
- Winner of the race -> Jenson Button for his courageous decision
Next week we continue in Malaysia. It starts an hour earlier than last year, yet it is still in the window of afternoon rain. I hope it stays dry during the qualifying race, because I'm interested in the aerodynamically most demanding track, which chassis is where the biggest benefits.
In the end, yet the juxtaposition of old and new control point

Glock mentioned that they have with their tank fuel distribution problems, for example, sloshing through the curves, making them anyway at least 15 kg (or liters, weissnichmehr) must drinhaben addition to the required quota, so that the motor is supplied without interruption. Bad design flaw, I would say.
I am disappointed with Hamilton's team Weichspülerei quite intimate. He was obviously pissed off, but in the press statement as this sounds again like "tüterü, class, oops, yes, something just happens, my team is so great, my guys are like no one's to blame ..." - totally implausible, obviously was advised him to shut up. Drive a car fast as he can, no doubt, but it seems to always be in critical situations, when he could not make their own decisions. If he does not now coming in even though it would require much (Shanghai '07), despite good tires unnecessarily coming in (Melbourne '10), or served up press or stewards any dreivierteldahergelogenen mischief - he makes again and again just what he is told, even if his responsibility actually requires something else from him.
Vettel has mentioned in an interview that by the non-fixed wheel nut, the wheel had some play and then cut by the construction of the brake disc, which then led to a breach of this. Where there's a lot worse could have happened, something should not happen, because if he had lost the entire front, which then would have been possible, he would take off quite badly, depending on its position on the slopes.
Applause for Button, I would not have believed him as a ride. Pressed tactical genius on the tube when it really mattered, and was there when he had to be on the spot after Vettel finish - perfect!
I do not know quite what to make of Michael Schumacher, the "god of Montezuma" acts being quite unearthly. Twice in the training of one Rosberg (!) Ironed. And earlier he would have been crushed in the Spanish youngster over, and if it were both kicked out. Let him, so you dare speak to him like a little, just not good enough / snappy / fast?
@ Ralf G. :
I think it's too early to make a judgment. Three-year break can not be cast off so to the lack of testing and that the car is not, as at Ferrari, was matched to him during the construction. One has often seen in the past, used that even the owners changed only the team, sometimes five or six races have been really up to speed. So I would hang on until June, until you can say something.
From the lap times he's been even think about her, what he lacks is the quality or speed.
Schumacher: Well, Rosberg made no impression because of that the car would be good. And after all Alguersuari also made no mistake. Certainly, this "Algenfutzie" a bad reputation for us fans, but too bad he does not always presented as suspect all ;).
Tires / mandatory stops: Why does one control the tire not simply? Then teams / drivers could not even stop trying to get to the finish. This should of course choose tires / produce, preserve the distance to a GP and Co. are only "just". I do not stand DTM so thanks to mandatory stops. Maybe that would help the F1.
I only problem I can not get used to it. Then we might as well cut out Competition Cautions, rain systems to install and Roll for the starting positions.
A look at the top speeds in Australia suggests at least that Schumacher faster on the straights, despite the slipstream only 1.3 km / h was as Alguersuari. This is simply not enough when you see that button 10 km / h was faster. This just comes with the usual problem of the acceleration out of the last corner. If you have a car anyway with lower taxes, then that is certainly behind another car any better. The Ferrari is faster and has probably not this particular problem, which is why Alonso was faster through the field.
Directed once again absolutely lousy. Schumacher have also shown almost nothing, so you could do no own image.
I was very unfair the way the wet blue strip in front of the Mercedes-box. Great way to punish the world championship team.
@ Because I travel so well a few others that may not always show the ferry Rauf the rear seats. : O)
Schumi: Okay, let's see. If he is slow in the coming races but when Rosberg, is IMHO not a good sign. Although he hates the narrow front tires and the car does not fit, etc.
