Formula Series: To whom it must pay in 2010

The new year has begun, and the fan lights on the horizon pale against the upcoming racing season. For some young talent in 2010 will decide the weal and woe.

Never in the history of motor sports, there were so many high class junior series as it is today. Furthermore, what kind of audience, motor sports and business drivers mean, Don has been here some time ago written . The tide series has yet another consequence: the search for the real talent turns out in the abundance of series and more difficult to assess the individual driver is also very uninformed fans more easily. Some drivers were able in 2009 but clearly stand out from the crowd - with them in the coming year be sure to expect.

The Masters

With all the talent in the scattering of different classes, who can choose one of the great formula for the series, must have been a lot of talent. There would be thus:

GP2 - Nico Hulkenberg It almost seems a bit strange, the young German in a preview to be entered on the junior rider. At least he has the goal to which all other pant after already achieved: Hulkenberg sits as 2010 Williams race driver. At the British tradition of team keeps you highly of the "man from Emmerich" (as Norbert Ockenga likes to say). The trust also justified? One can probably assume: Hulkenberg was at least equal to decide in the first appearance A1GP Series en route to the then well-known drivers were, for themselves or Germany. In the F3 Euro Series, he had in the first year with Grosjean and Buemi beaten only two drivers, who by now have already received an F1 chance (albeit with mixed results) in the second year he was able to get ultimately almost effortlessly the title . In the GP2 Asia, in which he got in the middle of the season, he was also impressed at first, and took on its first start in pole position. In GP2 he was with Grosjean on (in its second season) is usually equal to the rise of the French from Geneva to Formula 1, had no chance against the competition Hulkenberg. In his first appearances in the Champions League so we can be very curious.

Whbn - Bertrand Baguette The whbn which won the Belgians in the past year on the third try for yourself is one of the series that you can appreciate something worse. Experts like to talk about the fact that the show was on the same level as the GP2. Promoted as Robert Kubica and Sebastian Vettel seems to confirm the quality of whbn. Nevertheless, a series in which the runner-up Fairuz Fauzy is, must be (even if I hold the Malyasier for a rather underrated driver) leave questions fallen rider squad, even if all drivers up to 5th place (that is, except for the two remaining hit pic, Turvey and Walker) to lay claim to a current Formula 1 drivers have to: Jaime Alguersuari (# 6) took part in engagements in spite of all the F1 races 2009th The assessment is the linchpin of the series but also those of their master: you have to hold benefit baguette that he was not only easy to master, but was just around half points more than runner-up Fauzy (155 to 98). Less bread for his placings speak of the past two years: Seats 17 (2007) and 7 (2008). In Formula 1, it still seems to be interested in: baguette was recently again in a potential Sauber test driver this week.

Formula 3 Euro Series - Jules Bianchi had his first season in 2008, the Frenchman managed by Nicolas Todt (which really can not be a disadvantage) give even beat Nico Hulkenberg and Eduardo Mortara, 2009, he won the championship. Even otherwise could Bianchi 2009, impressed mightily: Ferrari was by his talent (and possibly his political "Package") so much that to him after testing in early December at Jerez offered a long-term (but in the content rather undefined) funding agreement. 2010 Bianchi will contest two races of the GP2 Asia for ART, and then drive for the team and the entire European season. If there in GP2 so well, as many believe, is probably one Bianchi, sooner or later go to see (rather short) in Formula 1.

Formula 3 GB - is Daniel Ricciardo with the British Formula 3 is a bit like the whbn: It can be hard to tell. Just as the British F3 whbn has an excellent reputation, unlike the whbn but could impress the talent reüssierten in recent years in the F3 is not all in higher series. Last year's champion Alguersuari did in his first F1 year, noticeably heavy. The vice of the past year, Brendon Hartley, who was in the winter of 2008/09, sold as a steering wheel of future God had in 2009 a more character-forming years with scattered Ensätzen in various junior series. The dream of F1 is for the New Zealanders pushed into the distance rather than closer. The Brendon Hartley could be the winter of 2009/10 of Daniel Ricciardo: Will say. The Australian has been praised for the championship title in 2009 and his junior-day test sessions for Red Bull on all sides. That its closest competitor in the British F3 Grubmüller but Walter said, and that Ricciardo had to be beaten like sometimes part-time starters as the Zande of Renger and Marcus Ericsson is sometimes forgotten. Ricciardo season that followed the footsteps of 2010 Hartley is of course not be said for a long time - his time in Formula 1 test were really very solid. Next you should watch his career in 2010 forever.

Formula 2 - Andy Soucek An analysis of the F2-season 2009, I have elsewhere written about here before. I have also mentioned that it gnaws at the credibility of the new series that Soucek was able to prevail in spite of modest results in other series there. I still believe. But of course there is the possibility that Soucek has improved over the past winter, suddenly strong, has not been well served by his team, or simply with the F2 car got along very well. Even his time in F1 junior test days were not bad. But will this be enough? Hopes for a seat at Campos Meta seem to be in Formula 1 (for lack of sponsors) are more likely to have evaporated. Where else but Soucek want? In GP2 he also needs some cash and also runs the risk to destroy his reputation again. At a second season in Formula 2, neither he nor the formula will be interested in 2, which certainly do not want to give the impression of being a rallying point for aging B-talents. 2010 is probably in every case, the last season of hope for Soucek - a fair chance he would have earned but.

Formula Master - Fabio Leimer "International Formula Master" Champion of 2009 is certainly not just the title of the bygone year erstrebenwerteste. The series struggled throughout the season with a shrinking operator fields, high costs - and a mediocre reputation. Can the Cup in 2009 under conditions that have so much? Probably not. On Fabio Leimer you have in the coming year, but watch anyway: The very passable appearance of the Swiss (and the series Third Josef Kral) at its first use in the GP2 Asia in Abu Dhabi suggest that one has the Formula Master underestimated, perhaps, a little . Leimer is the rest of the GP2 Asia, and then deny the GP2 Europe series for ocean racing. This is not just the GP2 team, dreaming of the emerging talents. At the end of 2010, but they will still have an idea in which direction Leimer's career.

To whom else you must pay

In addition to GP2 last year Hulkenberg could still convince Petrov and di Grassi properly. Di Grassi in the coming year will finally be able to show at Virgin in F1, what he really has it. Petrov was also often mentioned as a candidate for an F1 cockpit, 2010, in the past few weeks it's gone quiet but a little to the career of the Russians. The sponsorship deal, which the new "Renault" team has finished with the Russian mobile operator Megafon could be indicative of a commitment by Petrov. Whether as a test or maybe even use the driver is (like the entire Renault Connection) unclear. If you want to take the matter to the GP2 drivers that need to be watching next year for sure that you have to also mention Kamui Kobayashi, who indeed was not in GP2 about 16th place out, but anyway (because of its good Start races in Brazil and Abu Dhabi) in the coming year with Sauber will.

WSB R In the whbn there are some names that you should keep in mind: Fairuz Fauzy could (if it is his form of 2009 can still improve a bit), perhaps in the near future for Lotus F1 will be interesting to 2010, he is there as a race driver hired as a test driver. Other points to note: Pic, Turvey, Walker, and maybe even Chris van der Drift.

Formula 3 Euro Series Bianchi addition one must of course first in Formula 3 Germany's Next GP2 champion Christian Vietoris call that has enjoyed a fairly workable season, but should still have some upside potential. Even Mika Mäki (# 6) should be (other than Red Bull, which he had removed from their Juinor squad) not write off - but 2010 will be safe for him a season fate. The Hamilton / Bianchi / Hulkenberg pattern of a mediocre first season, which is followed by a great second could perhaps follow the meantime Roberto Mehri. The young Spaniard was set last year though speed sporadic highlights, but did not (yet?) But quite clearly the consistency of an entire race (let alone a weekend or a season) lack of time.

Formula 3 GB here to search for more talent falls to me particularly hard. Vice Walter Grubmüller could not convince especially in recent seasons, yet he was able to offer master Ricciardo seriously stand up (score: 275 to 188). For next year, his father has reportedly bought a place in the whbn - maybe he can surprise us all there, yes. Renger van der Zande could sell stakes in its sporadic quite well, as Marcus Ericsson, he remains in F1 Junior-day test was used. Let's see ...

Formula 2 runner-up Robert Wickens was (as Mäki) removed after the 2009 season from the Red Bull junior squad. As Mäki Wickens should not write off but not quite. In an interview, he emphasized a few weeks ago that he was the only Noramerikaner that has a super license for 2010 - and that's obviously not a bad argument. But so far no one seems to have taken the bait. The 2010 season will probably decide on the future career of the Canadian. The same is true (minus North Americans) for Mikhail Aleshin and (minus North Americans and Super License) for Mirko Bortolotti. Starting for Italy, scion of a Viennese dynasty Cream Parlor in 2009 suffered a fate similar to Brendon Hartley - its shares have a good winter of 2008/09 a little more down. The next season he will also have to prove himself - if he leaves but only half as good as his relatives make ice cream (and much to be said, despite a moderate in 2009 to continue), then you should pay attention to the boy in 2010.

    Once again an excellent analysis.
    thx @ caution

But it may be that you have confused some 2009 and 2010, or a mistake?

    Greeting Xander

Thank you first for the praise! ;)

Because 2009/10: Can be good - the beginning of the new year, I'm unfortunately still a bit confused. An error (20 * 10 * Fauzy course at Lotus) I've found on the ever fast and corrected.
Honest finder will be asked to give further input Error!

[...] Theory is also at liberty to second place at Toro Rosso. Alguarsuari seemed to be only safe, but now it has become suspiciously silent. The rookie test in February could shine only Ricciardo, but should we have to haul in an F1 cockpit, as well as verbrennnen Brandon Hartley and Grosjean (See also the text for junior, 2010)? [...]
