IRL: criticism from drivers and fans

The second season of "new" IRL is not very good. The change to the TV channel "VS" has cost viewers and the races are not so exciting.

irl To speak of a "crisis" of the IRL is still too early. After all, the series keeps the sponsors and the audience at the track should be inoffziell, rising. But it also stirs criticism. And not only by bored commentators, but also the drivers who have the final race more or less closed as "procession". What else was there either. One must certainly not forget that the riders with arrows over 320 km / h through the area and are available after the hair-raising accidents in 2007, the safety first should. But do not overtake it is not a solution.

Interestingly, the problem has two components that should be the rule maker of Formula One (and all other series Renne) listen attentively.

First The cars are equal, the scope of the teams to small changes
The IRL is the Dallara chassis, the engine from Honda. Both are models of unity, one can not help it. That should ensure that even small teams can ride again. The reality is shockingly different. For some time now govern Ganassi and Penske, AGR can only hope for third place, if one fails the four leaders. The rest have nothing to report. Why is that?
Also on the money. Because if you have little scope to improve the car, then you have to try in the few gaps to find something. And although almost every week on the road, you can read on Twitter, as the regular driver tests at the road. The rest of the money they squandered in the factory and who has more, the simulations can also be more in terms of suspension, weight distribution, etc. spend. In the IRL hundredths already makes a huge difference because it is driven mostly on the Oval "flat out". More components can bring unity is not necessarily more competitive.

Second Tires and engines
On the ovals formed outside the racing line quickly a "dumping ground" in terms of tire wear. Who at the end of the race but would like to pass off the line, fly off easily. "Marbles" has always existed, but the problem has become worse for two reasons. On the one less car on the road, which could take a second track released (see NASCAR) on the other hand, the tire compounds become softer. It is also made for safety reasons, because hard tires give less logically. You could try to limit the formation of abrasion without infringing on the security aspect, but will not be so easy.
The IRL a "push to pass" button is. The supplies, however, just 5 to 10 hp. Far too little to even to get out of the slipstream in an oval. It will take do not matter, because the IRL wants to introduce in 2011 a new engine.

What could make it so, so you get the problem under control?

My ideas, sometimes loosely thrown into the room:

First Ban on testing during the season. That seems to be in Formula One auszuwirken very positive.
Second Penalty weights. I know, unpopular, but effective. However, do not know how complicated it is when you suddenly a car 10 or 15 pounds on it unpacked. The IRL cars react diffizielen already something bitchy.
Third More HP for the "Power Button". Maybe once per lap 50 hp more, instead of 10 hp?

The IRL has caught some extent, but it is still on shaky legs. More races like Richmond you will not have the season may allow.

And what else?
The Speedcarserie is bankrupt and thus history . That's unfortunate, because the series with the touring car and F1 stars was fun. Since last year there were some races that were very good. I do not understand why such a thing can not be established in Europe. Presumably, however, the problem was that it focused too much on the Asia region. Had the series together with the FIA GT competed in Europe, it might have been different.

after the resignation of TG now I'm curious how it goes. apparently has no money in his treasure chest in it more for the IRL.

As for the audience to pay what I must honestly say that I see nowhere an upswing. richmond was again alarmingly empty. audience has to pay someone? I think something around 100,000 or 110,000 fit in there. But how many were there ..... 15 000 ... 20,000? and they are still not even gone to competitors in NASCAR.

The Indy 500 is also sold out every year just because it is within a radius of + 100milen may not live to see on TV. would like to know how it would look like times when it did not. whether there are even 500 000 would pay for one half of one-show-drivers.

Moreover, even a stupid TV deal with Versus .... because I think you get over cable net in the U.S.?

it comes to punishing weights. I am not a friend of them. I think it's unfair if someone wins a race he will punish them. The car is not really much room for stuff AERO offers I find absolutely correct!

But, VS you get on cable. I just made smart times. If just depends on where you live. In New York, but it can get, for example.

I just wish anyway for some time that the IRL cars away from the unit and it comes back are several chassis and engine manufacturers. Hopefully it will be from 2011 which, if not, it'd make me sad.

Go to Richmond race: it was very boring. But Richmond was also in 2007 was already the most boring races of the season by far, and last year it buckets of accidents and Cautions, I say once that it would have been without the boring. The track is perhaps just a size too small for these cars. Iowa is indeed almost an improved version of Richmond with a little more distance and variable banking and now that we have seen in 2008 and 09 good races. 2007 was there but there is not even overtake, but that was then at the brand new asphalt. and the race in Milwaukee (namely 1-mile, but almost without banking) can be very interesting, as shown 2008 and 2009 was in order.

Why would my action to remove and replace as Richmond by Phoenix or New Hampshire, Phoenix degrees can offer with its various curves certainly more interesting race and the CART series was already there often. But I do not know how the contract situation with the RIR.

In terms of audience numbers: they are indeed above all always "felt" bad, if you go to the oversized NASCAR ovals (where: is it really still in Texas, despite the huge grandstands). In Milwaukee, Iowa, Kentucky, and Co. has always been something the whole better. Phoenix is still one of the smallest NASCAR ovals, would be better in this respect.
