NASCAR: The begins well

Penalties, mass crash, rain, and a winner who has never won at Daytona. The ingredients were there for a spectacular race, but unfortunately was the end unfortunately not so glorious.

2009_daytona_500_rain_delay The end came sooner than expected. It had started to rain, NASCAR sent the huge blowers on the track, so they do not completely wet. But when we took the car off the track and put in the boxes, the thing already looked not so good. And no sooner had Fox interviewed a few drivers who broke the NASCAR off the biggest race of the year. As the spectators watched not only surprised, because usually you can be something more than 20 minutes. Some riders looked a little incredulous of the laundry, but it had been prepared for a long evening. But this time the NASCAR could not cancel until and had to wait for all eternity. One is to blame yourself once again.

As the NASCAR race at Daytona necessarily want to run in prime time, it will start 2 hours later than usual You could even go an hour earlier at the start, as the many drivers have long been calling. A start date by 12 or 13.00 clock would have done yesterday even make sense. First, because the race then when dry could have taken place, partly because there had been a light rain much more air to the rear. Because FOX is the Sunday evening will certainly not fully hit with NASCAR. However, it would have brought nothing, if we had waited yesterday evening. First, it should rain more than an hour, on the other hand takes more than two hours to get the track dry. Three hours to wait for almost 50 laps? That would have made little sense.

In general, the rain yesterday has dictated the entire race. It was clear from the outset that there would be rain, the only question was when it would go off. Prior to the first 100 laps would have meant that the race would have to go on Monday, which would have been for NASCAR and FOX a disaster. Accordingly, there was no race in the middle phase, ie those rounds that are unwound in which the driver only their rounds and prepare for the final sprint. Instead, the field is rarely calm, and the nearer the rain came, the more hectic it came off.

First, there were but Kyle Busch, Danny Hamlin, Jeff Gordon and Carl Edwards, who made the front speed. Not far behind the surprising AJ Allmendinger, who completely own the Dodge colors held up. And that's a car that has not ma for the entire season for a sponsor. Here, too, Dale Earnhardt Jr., but he had a bad day yesterday.

When one of the first pit stops missed his pit. As the only driver of 43 After the race, said that the signs be so hard to see, but, seriously - Junior since he was a week since the move and it is not the first time that he is at Daytona. On a later pit stop he was standing outside with a front tire of the markings. Another one of those rookie mistakes. And then the thing was an accident.

As always, there are two opinions. The first: Junior Vickers has deliberately pushed toward lawn, so it's your own fault. The second, junior she has no longer any good.

NASCAR has dubbed the incident as a racing incident, but I really do not think so. My first reaction was: Junior's fault. He would have, like the others do too, can go from the gas, if not must be so at all. From his perspective camera, it looks as if he had simply missed the filing. Still - it was stupid of them and an extremely dangerous one at that. I would have punished them both. Junior has no friends yesterday, you could tell much after the race.

By accident, the two dominant cars were out. Kyle Busch was able to get right, Hamlin dragged his Toyota, including 34 kilos tape around the track. Too bad for Gibbs, who previously had Logano lost in an accident and so completely empty-handed.

For the front suddenly found Elliott Sadler and Reed Sorenson, who had driven by clever pit strategy forward. Since it had been behind Matt Kenseth and Kevin Harick comfortable, but became increasingly nervous as the first few drops fell from the sky. The usually quiet Kenseth had then probably yes but eventually tired of watching it to Sadler, like his car was always wider, and then pushed him entrance into the Turn 1 strongly pure curve. Sadler had to lift, Kenseth and Harvick passed. And then it crashed back again, because Amirola threw away his car. It was followed by the caution, from which it never returned.

Matt Kenseth has won certain someone that you can treat it. He went to start 39th on the grid and fought his way quietly to the front. Sure - he ended up very lucky and Kyle Busch, he would hardly come over, but it always goes in Daytona had also lost the chance at the right moment to be in the correct position. And he has come forward on their own, that is not a victory, because it has someone pushed forward.

That the race was canceled but in the end, the victory of course make a bit stale. As already explained above - NASCAR would not put so much value to a late start date, the race would have been a regular end. Thus, NASCAR is a bit bumpy start to the season.

Formula One
A few brief messages:

- The sponsor of Renault, ING, runs at the back end of the season. Therefore, the team must not go under. If the road is good, will find someone already there. So do not panic.

- Williams his KERS system is not used in front of Istanbul, so wait until May.

- Honda is supposedly pretty sure saved. So the remains of the Honda team. Presumably, a management buyout with an investor, money from sponsors, and Honda. Does sound a little odd, because I'd rather wait times.

And what else?
I have very little time a week. Morning a little, then I am professionally 2 days in Estoril. No kidding, but not at the track, just in a hotel nearby. And the time will probably not even enough for a trip to the track. Has nothing to do with motor sports, is just a coincidence that I am there. The 16 degree heat, however, are getting up at 4.00 clock and bought a totally nutty schedule. (Towards Berlin -> Zurich -.> Lisbon Lisbon Back -> Mallorca -..> Berlin each just under six hours of flight time, but there is no direct flight from Berlin).

Week Ahead: A1 Grand Prix in South Africa, NASCAR in Fontana. The A1 is still not listed in Premiere, but the stream it myself.

TV preview coming tomorrow.

As usual a great report. Yesterday had only once looked briefly at the ticker and there was scarce gone round 50. Had it not been watching too big on. Think it's really great that you've written a small report. These are nicely decorated with a nice video of the incident.

    Thx.

Thanks also from me for that.

I also think that since both have behaved very stupidly and about equally responsible for the accident.

If one considers the clear statement regarding the new NASCAR, double yellow line, there is only one culprit: Junior. Vickers has legally blocked.

How may I with the yellow line to understand?
I've just viewed the video again and I see it the other way: Vickers Jr. has left no room. Jr., was much faster, he would come by in any case to Vickers.
Jr., was much further down the track, there was enough space to overtake, but Vickers has drawn further and further down, until he himself with his left tires ABOUT (not on) drove two yellow lines. Where Jr would still go there to do? In the grass? Instead, he has kept to the yellow-line rule and wanted to place himself again behind Vickers. He has touched Vickers.

Block certain is allowed. But it is forbidden to push another driver below the yellow line, and that's what made Vickers. So I give Vickers the blame. Sure, some will say now that Jr would have to check, however: many people have always said Jr should be more like his father, that so reserved, but also sometimes interspersed. This time he has not backed down. And now just around so many grumble.

In addition, it was indeed just the Lucky Dog pass, and there were still about 70 laps to go. And anyone who knows a little familiar, that within 70 laps at Daytona a lot can happen.
