Le Mans: Audi R15 shows / NASCAR: Daytona 500

Audi has the Erl-King photos that have appeared in the print edition of the British "sports car" reacts and published an official image of the R15.

Audi Test Vallelunga 10.02.2009 Looks a bit like as if the photos were taken at least from the same test in Vallelunga, if that's a PR thing and they come from the same source, or whether Audi has just moved to, you can not say no EXIF data. In any case, the car has become significantly different than the R8 or R10. As with the first image, but it is badly reminiscent of the Renault R29, if you look at the muzzle. Such a wide air intake you have not seen for a long time. I've just seen in the excellent book "Sports Car Racing in Camera, 1960-1969" and "1970-79" maybe been, but nothing like this. This is a very, very extraordinary, since what makes Audi, but also interesting again when making reference to Renault.

Even in the LMS we have made the small rear wing. They are like in Formula One has become narrower, which makes for probably the prototype for a change. Less air in the rear wing means less downforce, less cornering speed but also a higher tire wear, because the cars slide more. Exciting is just that Renault and Audi apparently had a similar idea. The air is to the front as little as possible so you can be bothered to clean them suffer stern, where there with her (in whatever way) to win the lost downforce rear wing again. Front brings you look at the output with a larger wing. For what is there hidden under the disguise of Audi looks almost like how a front wing in F1. I'm very curious how Audi is clear with this concept. After all, Renault does not seem to be so happy, but here are the differences between a prototype and the F1 just too big. One should mention also that the Audi is the first car that was developed under the new regulations. The 908 is Peugeot's just a converted version.

NASCAR - Daytona 500
The Gaterade Duels yesterday were so exciting medium, but revealing. In the first race there were all kinds of scrap in the second opened up for anything. But what once was not bad, because you could still see a few things: Hendrick is extremely fast on the plate Restritor course, as EGR, I have not seen as safe again. If Montoya had done yesterday, not a small mistake at the usual position shuffle in the final laps, he would have come in the top 3. Toyota is also fast, but now is no surprise. Ford is not as good, rather the catastrophic area Dodge is located. We saw yesterday with AJ Allmendinger, who qualified for the race, because all (!) Teammates have pushed him and shielded.

So now the race is on Sunday and you can ever really looking forward to a good start. As we saw last year, it is not only important that one's own engine has good power, but also who one pushes forward. However, it will be difficult this time because it fell in both races, that he who was in the penultimate round of the front, was able to keep it there as well. In ERTEN Duel was Jeff Gordon, Kyle Busch was in the second, who was helped, however, Hamlin, Mark Martin would otherwise scurried past.

Now the race is run on Sunday a little different. As usual, the first 10 rounds are likely to be hectic. Not only because you want to get out of the narrow midfield, but also because you want to show himself and his sponsors. It is mostly so that FOX, the first laps in a row without interruption shows Hinsch old but many viewers during commercials elsewhere. As we all know does, between lap 25 and lap 160 is not too much. If you're unlucky, it even goes so far that everyone drives in a row behind each other.

Difficult to predict whether that will happen on Sunday. Much depends on how many restarts will be. They're always very dangerous, because you have to look for his new position and defend. The more restarts, the more accidents.

In terms of accidents, so you have to expect in 200 rounds with it. 500 miles and not without the Duels have shown that Goodyear could again have problems with the tires. There were two or three tires a pretty miserable state was taken from the car. Some broke away again from the tread. From this it will probably be many pit stops, even if under green. The risk of hanging in the wall is still very large. In addition there is the problem that the cars on the track unusual move much.

It has something to do with the track. For a high-speed oval in Daytona is pretty wavy and can be seen in the curves move as much as the car. This has been going right to the point. Guilt is the asphalt, which was not reprinted since 1979. This will be changed in the next three years, however. The track will be resurfaced, which also means that the waves would disappear. That's not right but many drivers who are afraid that Daytona can be boring. Because there are no waves, then anyone can take the 31 degree banking high. Befrüchtet anyway Carl Edwards thinks, and also that the "biggest race in motorsports," then only in a race many would.

Why is the race at Daytona in fact the most watched? There are several reasons. First, it is because the race is seen in the sport technically dead of February. The NFL is by that MBL does not, the rest is boring league games. Since such an event comes in handy. On the other hand, NASCAR has not screwed in vain for years the myth of Daytona. The 24-Hour race has long been popular, but the NASCAR race had marketed the first "live" race in the 70s. In other words, Daytona has long been the only race that you could ever live to see the NASCAR. And so it has become customary that the start of the NASCAR season in February and celebrates the ratio of the race is about twice to three times as high as with the other races of the season. What then results in the first 10 to 20 rounds will be so exciting.

Among the streams: The offer seems good and to be stable. The pay-streamer, there are two, one from the United States, one on Sky. The UK was the week much better to do without the U.S. must stop advertising what the face of the spots are partially created just for Daytona, is ever sad. Do not forget: CWTS and NW run on weekends. Whether the NW is streamed officially, I can not say yet.

And what else?
Also on the move: the GP2 Asia in Qatar. The first race was rather yawn for, you can see from the Scandals at the start when it has crashed once again (nothing happens).

TV program: Only NASCAR in a hurry because I must be gone. GP2 repetitions later I still carry on.

Are certainly very beautiful, "eche" looking race car. In particular, compared with of course the ugly F1 cars in 2009.

    "Eche" = "true".

The R15 is pretty ugly. Find the F1 car is nicer ;-)

The Nationwide race will be streamed officially, at least according to nascar.com:

Thanks to free PitCommand I overhear yesterday may also like Kasey Kahne complained about the lack of speed of his Dodge at the end of the line. They seem to schächeln this year really, and you would have never expected to even last year with the Dodge win at 500th I hope to give de not, not until the checkered flag is waved.

I found / find the Audi R10 of the most beautiful race cars ever created.
on the R15 and I have to get used to it again.

Has something of a whale shark, this car. However, I am not sure if the good (after all, it gives quite a while, too bad the design can not be so) or bad (the energy needs of a whale shark is anything but frugal) is.

    @ Prometheus:
Apparently the drive is not the new engine of Dodge. The Penske has tried in the last race in 2008 and he went up on a regular basis. This could then affect the missing tests negative for Dodge. But Dodge is long gone so doll with limiters at the races. The more or less randomly victory last year, only masked.

I'm glad that Monty is not traveling with a Dodge. I am the brand but since Al Bundy grown to love, but you want to see them work performance.

Can it be that Audi has taken up the "hole in the nose" idea, go with the Ferrari last year was that?

  11. foofighter 14th February 2009 at 11:47 #

I like the R15 pretty good if the first is painted properly. Burgi to vote but, as is more likely a reference to the Ferrari's nose to recognize the Renault-idea seems to me still very stubborn. However, Audi has already at last year's A4 DTM legally implemented innovatove ideas. Ok this is a completely different car concept, but this one definitely has expertise.
