Recently, a colleague from Austria said by e-mail to me, "Look, Williams will be the next". And apparently he's right, because the racing team has just received a new injection of funds - from Bernie Ecclestone.
15 million euros to have received from the racing Ecclestone as an "immediate assistance". By Williams CEO Adam Parr said that they will do with the money now through 2010. Of course, one wonders why they need now rather small sum of 15 million €, if you estimated in the next two years will issue 250 million. Had the savings can not be anywhere rather than to borrow? Or is there more behind? And because it comes to selling the former Honda team and not so much listening to Ecclestone ever secures to the back and reported that they could compete with the top teams of three cars. Apparently behind the scenes a lot of commotion.
Back to Williams. Why, then, this injection of funds? And why now? After all, it is an advance from the pot of TV revenues. Since it seems likely that Williams either cover just 15 million to the ongoing operation, or needs the money to pay for some expiring credit immediately. Since the sponsors of the team are not so numerous and funds from the sponsors not to a stroke, but in batches of flow during the season, I guess it's probably the latter option, which Williams has just brought in trouble. If, however, the debt of the team has only 15 million more, it's not a good sign for the current season and certainly very intensive development work. The budget is very tight and probably not be much room. Use that all the teams in this year in terms of development regulations every little gap, life will not make it easier for Williams. The racing needs a fantastic start to the season, since mid-2009 will probably be suspended again by the other teams.
The Ecclestone, Frank Williams helps out of a jam is not surprising. After all, people know each other since the 60's racing series from Formula One and others. However, there are no free lunch with Ecclestone. And so the money just comes out of the new TV revenue pot, but that's a catch. This because the underlying revenues were approved by the FOTA yet not so, because you want more money. So far, the FOTA was there agreed, but Williams would be the first team to be out of line. But this type of going it alone you're so used by Williams (customer chassis)
At the same time Ecclestone has been building up a back door, even if more manufacturers need to stop. He told dpa that one could even imagine, three coaches per team top use. And you probably already have the idea for the event that Honda will not sell and you would have to compete with only 18 cars, as it is on the TV pictures not so good. And apparently there were already talks, which could explain Ecclstones increased desire to travel this winter. His visit to the traditional Ferrari ski festival in the Alps was apparently less out of politeness or boredom, but because it was to discuss something. At the same time very early cancellation of Ferrari to Ross Brawn, it also makes some sense. If you will comply with it need to use a third car, you will probably come at Ferrari in money problems. Since one of the engines gets very little, but the production and service costs money, and a third team also consumes extra money, you will have to come up with something. The budget is indeed known to be at Ferrari finally, because no one can see a penny from Fiat.
2009 seems not yet to be secured, but rather through. It would be very surprising if another team or fail a race would be. Obviously there are a lot of movement just behind the scenes towards 2010. That Ecclestone is much concerned to secure Williams for 2010, is to lead not only to an old friend back. If you consider that Toyota has already said clearly that a victory this year ago and must be heard by Renault, the 2009 season must be definitely better than 2008, then you can imagine what is going on. If the end of 2009 Toro Rosso, Toyota, Renault and maybe even throw in the towel, would lack the same six other cars. Then the remaining teams would have been a third place each car so that the start field is fairly full.

Is it possible the Williams management team actually now easily describe as overwhelmed and incompetent? Regardless, everyone is building the bust, which he deserves!
@ NoteMe: unable to cope up I would say absolutely not. The problems are allowed to be made in any case jedoach yourself, you would not then just as stubborn, obstinate, and arogant BWM to sit in front of the door and think everything is going on as in the '90s. The times for private teams are simply gone. Without a major sponsor (such as Redbull or the funny Indian) or factory support does an F! Team just not. Not even if it was the ultimate top team times.
Yes, it does not look good for Frank, if it is already at the beginning of the secured tightly for two years 15 Mille ...
I still do not understand how Williams will be pampered as a private person team, where it has prevented even the stubbornness and the Kurzsichtlichkeit of Frank Williams, that we have more teams in F1. The cross points when it comes to customer chassis was very counter-productive. Certainly, in his view, partly understandable, but still not good for F1.
I hope the cars are still clients that a same chassis does not mean the same performance we saw last year with Red Bull, yes.
I hope to continue to see a 2 or 3 or better on the grid, Williams would not give up the Senna logo :)
Something else ...
Topic: Driver Weight
There was in the Speedweek again an interesting article in there. I think it's bad, what direction are we talking about. Since the drivers are starving down in order to improve performance. Rosberg was even embarrassed to admit how much he had to lose weight themselves. If yes almost like ski jumping ...
It would be easiest if one defines a Mindesgewicht for the driver, and who is perhaps 80kg lighter than the difference must carry ballast in the seating bowl. That would be the fairest, otherwise we are sitting now, only tiny little skinny in the cars.
The decision of Williams had been, customer chassis is not to tolerate a purely strategic (long from Force India as well). And of course, because two or three years, yes indeed it looked as if set, the top teams would be a branch. Against the material then again Williams had not had a chance. The same goes for the separation of BMW. The Germans wanted to have much more influence that Frank Williams would not. The final decision may have been stupid at first glance, on the other hand, I admire people that independence is more important than a great deal.
In terms of rider weights: Yes, that's a joke, but as thin as ski jumper can not be because they no longer have the muscle to move the car can.
I can only agree with you there Don! One can only admire Williams and Head ever to have come so far, because you have to remember how so only time the two have begun! And I did not want to let my team of BMW or otherwise "take" who shows even more clearly how they relate to YOUR business.
And before I make a Mario "Flanders" Theissen was sitting at the helm, I would prefer to close up shop ...
I just hope that Williams has a good start to the season and can be a bit of a stir with good reach places!
I've forgotten something else ;) Customers chassis, the Williams decision because I can only agree with that. Why build and develop a car when you can purchase it for a few million a McLaren or Ferrari? When it comes to the F1 to a large extent to the Kontruktion the best cars, if I want to go see or pabulum, I watch 95% of the racing series in addition to the F1 ...
And ... that certainly is the better choice would have been. Instead, they make for years but just keep on thick pants and pay for their hobby on loans. Loans that are now obviously inflated to such an extent that the company can no longer bear it.
And at least at this point is no longer the question of whether Williams / Head as Asterix and Obelix, there is now good or not, but a sober declaration that they have failed as a businessman.
