Formula One: Rules 2009 / China Photos

It is so pleasant to Web 2.0 events so that there is wireless everywhere, and we are working on boring lectures just what. Today, rippled the first messages on what is at the meeting of the FIA and the F1 Teams Association FOTA came out. Basically, both sides have a nice advance, but not very seriously needs to be taken up scare scenarios. The FIA says that after two years of begging on budget trimming, and have no desire now simply requires things like a single engine. FOTA wants the indignant cries, and says that they will do so when the Formula One no longer participate. Somewhere in the background there is still the idea of a separate series. But everything is not eaten as hot as it looks.

The thing is already clear that the FIA can not do without the team, the team only so in part without the FIA. Of course you could use a "pirate series" out of thin air, should the FIA to impose a motor unit. You simply alight in the FIA F1 series and sets up something like the "Grand Prix motor racing series." With all manufacturers prefer Red Bull probably, the two teams (STR, Williams), which could be omitted, replaced by one "customer teams". Only problem is that the FIA would have all the drivers who want to start in the non-sanctioned series, put on a blacklist, which looks like the lines, then even such a question.
The FIA can not do without the team, is logical. Sure - you could from the GP2 teams and IFM together yourself what new, but a series without Ferrari, McLaren and Honda, with drivers who barely know one of the normal audience is about as exciting as just a junior series. Do not forget to put in this context, the CVC investor, who has surely just a little like it, a billion dollar investment in the sand.

In other words - no one can without the other, so we will meet somewhere. Both sides set the bar high, but leave enough air to keep it at the end looks as if one is lost. And so things look right now:

The FIA wanted unity Motors - FOTA has a longer duration
Right now there is talk of three races that will keep the engines, but it could also be five. Who needs to change, just start from the back. The longer the duration of the motors is, the standard must be the components. You should still offer scope for improvement, but not so much. Especially if you would extend the service life of five races. For in that case, producers must first of all, the engines got so far, to the detriment of performance. A good compromise, I think. I do not believe for a second, that the FIA wants to seriously train engines. We know full well that they would loathe to Ferrari in the World Cup, which nobody wants. Presumably, it is important that you want to fight through point 2:

The FIA wants Leihmotoren cost only $ 5 million per year - the FOTA offers 10 million
Reasonable, because Williams and Force India are reportedly currently set well above 20 million for the engines on the table. But that does everything just a bit if a) KERS is, and b) a transmission. The FIA wants to suddenly one hears a unified introduce KERS in 2010. Ok - why not. But would not it have been better if I had the same so made, rather than first to burn about 20 million per manufacturer? Basically, the FIA will open the gate so again in terms of customer chassis (see below).

The FIA wants the tests are completely gone - cut FOA will
It is not wegbekommen the tests. At least not as long as is needed every year because of the rule changes, a new chassis. This must happen for safety reasons, as has been seen in the A1 GP. Now it looks as if you drive 30,000 km instead of only 20,000 kilometers. I still think too much. The idea to let the team on Friday of a race weekend to test extensively, I think better.

The FIA wants to standardize a lot more parts on the car - the position of FOTA is still unknown
Max Mosley would have liked it if parts are standardized to the car, you can not see. Brakes, transmissions, brake cooling, suspension, cooling systems, etc. The team can see the partially similar, but will not give up freedoms. There will probably be a hard bargain, but for the 2009 season, it's already too late. In 2010, it is feasible, but would probably mean then, that some teams have to build their cars from scratch.

Basically, the FIA will open with the trimmed aerodynamics and the unit components, the door for the customer chassis again wide open. Why should we still make the effort to have a workshop with their own autoclave (because the carbon fiber parts are baked inside) wind tunnels and CFD department, anyway if 70% of components are required? As can also buy the same basic chassis and develop the rest throughout the year by CFD itself. This is considerably cheaper, which is the very modern. The Force India is in the process of completing such a deal with McLaren, belongs to the poorly-kept secrets in Formula One. Dietrich Mateschitz has also been announced that Toro Rosso are perhaps not yet be sold. The only team that still have something against customer chassis, is Williams, but which are no longer able to enforce. First, because they themselves have no money, partly because the FOTA is not 100% votes for a decision needs more. It extends a two-thirds majority.

The FIA needs the customer chassis even more urgent. For one can thus fill the empty grid positions, the other should have something up its sleeve, suddenly two manufacturers have to retreat because of economic problems. It would not be "naked" since, but could interest teams from GP2, F2 or IFM attract upwards.

The thing is, of course, still a long way through. They want to meet after the race in Brazil again and discuss further details. But as I said - in terms of aerodynamics and unit components will happen in 2009 any more, but it could change something in the rules. Whether more points for a Pole, a revised expiration on Friday or other things - it will be exciting.

Understand as long as the manufacturer is not that they play just by the appearance of the negotiations with the FIA already LederMax in the cards, and allow him to, with new maximum demands always get his way, this is just a tired spectacle that is equally well can ignore.

Sure some people see in the unity of FOTA an approach in the right direction, but for me this is no longer than the consensus of a general staff at the "negotiating" an unconditional surrender.

I think it's more the other way. Manufacturers have maximum demands that the FIA countered. It is of course also about who has the longest at the end who has the final say. But basically you have to give rights to the FIA. Would enforce the manufacturer, we would continue to unbridled motor development, etc. because no one wants to back down. Renault has been trying for two years to press charges, but none of the other manufacturer makes.
But the fact is that sport at the moment is torn between so many interests (manufacturers, producers among themselves, FIA, motor clubs against Mosley, Ecclestone, investors, etc.) that slowly stops being fun.

I have great concerns in terms of customer cars. As an example because I see what happened in previous years in the DTM: Not driving for the championship teams were unrestrained to block and even used for driving (of course no one would admit it). In F1 it's all for now even more. If one then begins to have to tighten the other. And then even more rules and penalties?

I would like to see a car getting another one - third - would offer producers for "customer cars". Otherwise, pull McLaren and Ferrari may have test teams for engines that regularly then go into the air ;).
