F1 Calendar 2009: Canada missing / BMW decision

This is a bold surprise. The FIA has one of the most popular and best Grand Prix racing in the Formula One calendar is deleted: Canada. The race in Montreal was one of most watched in Europe, which was also the fact that due to the time difference was very handy on Sunday evening. Why the FIA has decided to be me and the mystery of this step, the manufacturer will not enjoy, because the Formula One thus finally retires from the North American continent. The race in Montreal was at least one event over which they could invite their sponsors from the United States. Apparently, the loss is because the teams are on the three-week summer break.

I'm starting now so do not start to mention the diary of NASCAR. But Canada to throw out the calendar is all about. One of the last lines that promise spectacular races on the calendar is missing now. Instead, we have in Bahrain, Valencia and Barcelona. Thank you for it. How about also, if you can not start the season until the end of March? The decisions in recent times extremely annoying. I can not imagine not mean that you will eventually not the USA / Canada in the calendar has. Routes there would be some, but most are not ready for Formula One. Road Atlanta and Road America would be good routes, but probably no one has except Williams, one of these tents in the 70 years that we need as a lack of pits, if you want to work on the car. But Bernie Ecclestone, the Formula One wants to see anyway in Las Vegas. Las Vegas would welcome, however, wants Ecclestone, the F1 drive on the "strip" that is, past all the big casinos, Las Vegas, which rejects it. Where there who want to build stands, I am also a mystery. Well, there it is, the tentative calendar.

29th March: Melbourne / Australia
05th April: Kuala Lumpur / Malaysia
19th April: Manama / Bahrain
10th May: Barcelona / Spain
24th May: Monte Carlo / Monaco
07th June: Istanbul / Turkey
21st June: Silverstone / UK
28th June: Magny-Cours/Frankreich
12th July: Nürburgring / Germany
26th July: Budapest / Hungary
23rd August: Valencia / Europe
30th August: Spa / Belgium
13th September: Monza / Italy
27th September: Singapore

18th October: Shanghai / China
01. November: Sao Paulo / Brazil
15th November: Abu Dhabi

BMW - Heidfeld may remain
Yesterday it was around before, I had also mentioned briefly, but a few words but I wanted to lose by the decision of BMW. That one has extended the contracts of all drivers (including Klien) is certainly not a stupid idea. Although I like Kubica as a racer in the race is still not really, but that was fair, and equal say in the quality of Heidfeld. Because next year everything will change, was the decision to leave that team in its structures not certainly wrong. It makes more sense to the new problems with the proven team to solve, rather than have to integrate a new driver. Hence, BMW is certainly well placed. This is not Heidfeld sent away, has been at his difficulties this year, certainly not an easy decision. His problems are not solved so real and so it's been a very courageous decision. On the other hand, his racing speed is one of the best in the scene, his technical understanding (input for the engineers) should also be very good. One thing is certain, however, that Heidfeld gets its last chance in 2009. Does he have trouble again, he is a problem other top team have found.

must be flown out to montreal of course once again congratulate the FIA for the sharp decision! * Ironie.exe *

what is crass course, is the clean paulo now the only race in the American sector is. and it is still very far away whom the United States where you actually wanted to take off. Well .... the FIA is more quiet ride in the desert! a lot of fun there! : D

  2. DonDahlmann 7th October 2008 at 19:43 #

Oh, Melbourne is okay, even if Bathurst sure nice :)
Istanbul is a great course, let's see if the new aero rules to improve the racing there. The rest I give to you right.

  3. Prometheus 7th October 2008 at 19:48 #

If the FIA for anything at all to do with the decision, except that they must sign at the end of the mop? I thought this whole "Where vehicles?" Stuff is first of the FOM and FOA, and how all the hot clubs negotiated the FIA un "approved" then the ... because their job is really only the sports authority, not the business end .

  4. DonDahlmann 7th October 2008 at 19:58 #

Good throw. Bernie makes the deals, agrees. FIA takes off the tracks and publishes the calendar. I'm just trying to find out times, whether the deal expired at Montreal at all, but found nothing. Normally something like that already goes through the media, or the issue is addressed. But since nothing was found. Perhaps it is also only a year to the reconstruction work that Bernie has requested to implement.

When it comes to guys just a long summer break, she may have of me from sincerely like to emphasize Hungary. I'm wondering for years what will the F1 there. Is in the middle of nowhere, the track is bumpy with no end (so was criticized heavily at the last race in Singapore) to pass, and not the people with the right fat wallets Kannste I guess even in Hungary. Since Canada had much more charm.

  6. basic-groove 7th October 2008 at 20:17 #

muhahahaha don! you mean the F1 in the panoramic view barhurst in! : D it would be cool! But I would rather like to see the A1GP! ;)

melbourne ..... simply because I miss glen dix in adelaide as it has always been on the line to dance with the flag! : D I especially Pande adelaide always nice to look at!

istanbul .... because I just can not get used to this mountain and valley ground. I have nothing against mountain and valley stretch ala spa etc but istanbul is just ugh. think that because even if there is next year will run aeroblabla less exciting.

  7. I 7th October 2008 at 20:32 #

This is still a distance away, the exciting races offered regularly, even in the race without SC. Soon, the F1 drive probably only on Tilkedromen and street circuits ... (And that is perhaps better still, just not F1 more to let the "good old" routes run as the character of the routes with unspeakable conversions to destroy as you would with Hockenheim was doing.)

  8. Wolli 7th October 2008 at 20:52 #

Abu Dhabi may be gone, Bahrain, Malaysia, Barcelona, Valencia, Magny Cours, Budapest, Nurburgring and China ^ ^ When I see the Moscow route, I know who designed the hat.Wieder closely and flourishes here and gyroscope built da.Warum Tielke not ne route ala Lime Rock.Immer these unnecessary tight corners, where before none can surpass. The Russians are always on speed anyway, so what once chic ala Silverstone in 1970 ^ ^

  9. Xenic 7th October 2008 at 21:14 #

Why let all the idiots Tilke rumfuschen it? The plan is to prefer some highways but no motor racing circuits. Somehow you get the feeling that Formula 1 should only be driven with the handbrake and overtaking is not heard you before. The only thing that can Tilke is dangerous routes in the sand can be built that will always look nice but do not have a certain flair.

Hockenheim is the conversion for me, one of the best that there ever was. The miles of driving through the forest somehow Nurn Speed thrills had ;-).

In Abu Dhabi, and Valencia, I would wait before we can really say is there. Valencia was indeed a "time trial", but actually had the track after all the nice one or the other passage. I'm on a race with a new aero tense.

Bernie wants to earn lots of money, which is his right. So he moved his circus in the regions where he gets the most money for his appearances. That may be the circus shows offered there is less and less attractive, could be anything but negative for development. Gradually he is scare with these decisions, the right motor sports fans. Me included!

  11. Terra 7th October 2008 at 21:41 #

I am sure that Formula 1 is traveling on the oval at Talladega ;-) - the times have flair, but otherwise I agree with previous speakers in most points!

  12. hwk 7th October 2008 at 21:55 #

@ Canada: really a shame. Maybe there is still a rescue.

@ BMW, so I'm not so convinced of it, that was the best step now. The most convenient in any case. But new brooms sweep better actually. Commit to an absolute top riders would have been better so far, as then you would see how good the car really is. Because to be Kubica has no real comparison, because he has not done already against other F1 team-mates.
By demanding to be world champion, she would rather have brought Alonso, then you would know if the car is crap or not.
Thus, it may nevertheless be the drivers who take it just do not.

  13. Stefan seventh October 2008 at 22:58 #

There is a really nothing more to one - more and more traditional routes to be bowled from the calendar, but there are always more events on Yawn retorts routes. Too bad!

The organizers in Melbourne, it seems to also learn from the press:
"The organizers have the Grand Prix of Canada must learn from the media that the race of the Formula 1 calendar for 2009 has been canceled," according to a first written opinion from Montreal. "We will make no further comments to the process as long as we have not spoken to the parties involved, ie, the Formula One Management (FOM) and the FIA."

  14. dogfood 7th October 2008 at 23:15 #

Mal ne question to the reader: why can not keep Hungary on the calendar? Hungary is not exactly an economic miracle. Hungarian sponsors an F1 race and not stall. Budapest may be a nice city, but really not the posh factor to the F1 last looked. So why?

  15. I 8th October 2008 at 00:07 #

"The Hockenheim remodeling, for me, one of the best that there ever was."

I see this quite differently. What is the ring for now as a "normal" modern track how many others? The uniqueness that also provided interesting race is gone.

  16. hwk 8th October 2008 at 12:11 #

accurate conversion Hockenheim, that would as if you were to convert spa, but with such a concept would not even in life :-)

  17. DonDahlmann 8th October 2008 at 12:30 #

@ Dogfood: Well - Hungary still has the "Gate to the East." Probably disappear as soon you go to Moscow.

I can not think of anything really, what would produce a total withdrawal from the North American markets. Especially not in the moment you because of sagging sales of expensive German cars on the U.S. market, rather more than less advertising needs. My only explanation is that it still conjures up a deal with Indianapolis or another route out of the hat. The calendar is still preliminary and adjustments over the winter, there has been time and again.

  18. Charlie Harper 8th October 2008 at 02:04 #

This decision shows once again just like it regardless of the Formula 1 track on which it runs. What matters is where you will find this route. As the races are come of it does not matter. One has in the past killed the lines enough good races and has offered to bind the bad races left inside. I only remember the A1-Ring or Suzuka.

  19. Prometheus 8th October 2008 at 02:14 #

But then again you can see how much tactics, politics and money in the top motor sports in the game. To hear about the NASCAR get updated very often so exactly the same criticism, because one traditional track like Darlington, South Carolina or North Wilkesboro in favor of "test-tube lines" somewhere else passes. That is - as so often - no F1 own problem ;-)

  20. Charlie Harper 8th October 2008 at 02:31 #

    @ Prometheus
It is already clear, but it has assumed in the formula 1, a scale is that actually no longer reproduce. Alone, that no longer drive at Silverstone (where the first Formula 1 race held) will be as if the Nascar no longer ride in Charlotte!
It is also up to us! I would like to see if the Nascar what would happen if NASCAR would do something like that.

  21. JanW 8th October 2008 at 11:09 #

So The contract ran through 2011 ... Very bad.

  22. NoteMe 8th October 2008 at 16:16 #

The only thing I find worse than the loss of a section of the caliber of Villeneuve Circuit Jilles would be if the Canadian government would now be blackmailed by Bernie and his shooting companions.

Races that do not pay off for the organizers are not supported by public funds. Not here in Germany, not in Europe, not in North America, anywhere. The money is tax-funded handouts to the F1 rights holder. Ugh.

  23. DonDahlmann 8th October 2008 at 16:37 #

This is a long time nothing compared to what the Americans have given the straight line owners. Since most NASCAR ovals of NASCAR also include, which will be happy.
    http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/03/bailout-bill-includes-big-earmark-for-race-tracks/

  24. NoteMe 8th October 2008 at 17:20 #

Yes, that's funny. (Though not as perverse as the grants for the F1 license, after all, you can buy with the economic effect of stimulated construction argue. Have in Formula 1 since it has always effects the second and third order [Zusehtouris, the region!] For the abstruse monetary gifts from the public purse serve.)

It is completely unclear to me why just Chuck Schumer (D-NY!) Campaigns for race tracks. Or did not want to give Senator subjects with greater proximity to this nonsense?

  25. I 8th October 2008 at 20:52 #

"Races that do not pay for the organizers are not supported by public funds."

I see similar. Can prevail but it is only in Europe, North America and other democratic countries. Governments, however, the "can do whatever they want," have no problems for the "image" of their country and its (alleged?) Appreciation by making F1 race could afford to loose. And they do so now.

  26. I 8th October 2008 at 20:56 #

As far as the link: Why parks grant tax advantages to deny these track owners, however? But also makes little sense.
