F1 - GP of Valencia / IRL - Fire at Penske

For the first time in a long time, the Formula One embarks on a completely new route. Although the track for the F1 in Fuji also has been relatively new territory, but it is already on a path layout something else down. The last new track came in 2005 at the exchange rate in Turkey, and the year before it was China and Bahrain have been included in the calendar. So now for the first time in Valencia and one felt like eternity. The last non-permanent race track is surfaced in F1 was in Melbourne in 1996, the last real street circuit was established in 1989 with the race at Phoenix (USA), where it was only three times on the road. So it's been a pretty big change. And I am the Valencia circuit, but not so sure if he is not one of Formula One far too fast.

If you look at the route graphic look of Valencia, one may already be a little different. Three times you have to slow down mightily from more than 300 km / h, twice you will accelerate to over 280 km / h. This is a street circuit already enormous speeds, and because you can have in a city no mile-long run-off areas, the price is correspondingly narrow. I feel that is not very happy. As you build courses that are safe and have large run-off areas, and then bang it around with 300 between two concrete walls. Is that necessary? I do not know. Kubica's accident in the last year has shown that such incidents may sometimes go to the eye. The Americans built their city courses already made good, and especially tragic reason not comfortable angled slightly. It is also clear when you look at the onboard video from a GT race that took place a few weeks ago.

Worries me above all is the long start / finish line with a kink. The cars are good and like 260 km / h before the hairpin have it, to the curve in which one can at least go for two. It has the basic ingredients for a launch accident that can take account of the lack of run-off areas quickly gathering pace. I'm really not sure if the course is not long way to fast.

When it comes to voting, the team reported in their press releases that you will probably move in the direction of Montreal. So little downforce, top speed a lot, because there are no high-speed corners. This is also the reason why the soft Bridgestone / super soft tire will advance. This is the weekend will be very hot. All things that really speak for Ferrari. With the soft tires which are better Italierner clear, as with the heat, which increases tire wear. McLaren will not be far behind, but their advantage is the quality anyway, because on a street circuit, it is known by overtaking more difficult. The key is, then, again, in the start position. What no one can judge, however, is the asphalt and the like will react to the tire.

Behind the top two teams could arrange to Toyota. In Montreal, Glock was in fourth place, but certainly also benefited from the failure of Raikkonen, Hamilton and Rosberg. On the other hand, the heat at Toyota are always a good thing and should not be underestimated. BMW also need to have on the list, after all, you have the race win in Canada, after all. The long straight lines fit the BMW engine and Kubica on these routes is very strong. Behind BMW and Toyota is tight. For Williams, Valencia could have a chance at a good spot in the top 5 are, but I'm not sure if the English have at all to connect to the front middle. Red Bull and STR I expect more later, just as Honda and Force India.

But I expect quite an exciting race, especially between the top teams. If I would have to tap, then I would look forward Hamilton, because I think he is the best way for these courses.

IRL - Penske burned
And in the truest sense of the word. Of all the transporter with the two cars and all the accessories are completely burned. Fortunately there were no injuries, but in addition to a sticky mass of two cars remains today. Blessing in disguise for Penske: the two test vehicles were coincidentally also in California and are being brought to Infinion Raceway. All other parts are flown in from the Penske Department. Despite everything that is of course a weakening of the team. The test car did not read the parts on the car that had the emergency vehicles, all equipment must also be ordered only together. This is likely the championship chances for Scott Dixon leads Castroneves 78 points before to increase even further. While you can get in the three remaining to Renne still a total of 150 points together, but Dixon has actually only gondolas still in the top 5 home.

And what else?

I'm not really too big safety concerns at the new course. Of course, in a street circuit, the accident risk is always something bigger. But I do not think that Hermann Tilke here - in terms of security - has delivered an inferior product. And the FIA and Bernie King is suddenly not care about anything. The know what they are doing. And in interviews in recent weeks and months, the driver said again and again that they are pleasantly surprised by the run-off zones and safety precautions. Then I some U.S. parking races are much more suspect (to be honest I can think of even some permanent routes in the U.S., which I think is more difficult than the Valencia course ^ ^).

Of course, something unexpected can always happen. No one would have expected about the fact that people in Montreal can just fly there, where Kubica has done it. Otherwise there would be no such break in the wall was. But combined with the modern cars, the risk should not be excessively large.

Could from what I've always worried whether on oval, town or street courses, is to take off a car and get into the fence above the wall. Degree of open-Wheelern is something quite possible, if the fall at higher speeds with the wheels together.

But we're waiting times at the weekend and fingers crossed that everything goes well. Until proven otherwise, I have confidence in any case Tilkes understanding and skills in the cars.

I do concur with the opinion of Prometheus only. I am somewhat surprised by the concerns of Don Dahlmann.
After I saw the first pictures of the track, I was surprised how big the run-off areas are. I'm also not too worried about security, although of course there is always a small residual risk.
By the way, I find the track in Valencia is not beautiful, it comes to concrete walls between the Monaco-Flair 0. Hopefully provide the route from at least one exciting race.

BTW: In addition, it may well be that there is rain on Saturday in Valencia. So it could be a really exciting quality.

I'm really just worried about the start-up phase, where it can just be close. For a street circuit it has been relatively good safety zones, see if, as we drove past. But I just wonder also, if you build a street circuit must be such that most of the time you are traveling with more than 270 km / h.

The kink is full and broad enough to haul up to the first real curve well. Only the closely similar as La Source Spa or the Nürburgring Haug-hook, just a bit faster in the directions. May well be that there's bangs, but if there is nobody else who bangs on the tires is not worse than normal. In particular, the outflow is indeed paved, so it can be avoided or at Drängelmanövern in the crease in the curve if necessary.

The bigger problem is I think its that no pilot knows the track and could try some unconventional candidates overtaking. In places where it is not, what no one knows just yet.

But Don is right, the approach to the first corner is ideal for a startup crash already.

Of course the price is too fast, and at its inaugural race also saw a few more Reifenstapel.Zudem I wonder why so many Formula series to Valencia schleppt.Wenns not bang in F1, then F3 and F-Bmw GP2.Mit and safety ! ^ ^ And tarmac run off areas, so great, that slows down a car when one or more wheels fehlen.Für me of course is simply designed to be fast, since the medical and safety car be deployed very often ^ ^

There was a well-boring, look inside grand prix and unexpectedly learns something else about this:
The F1 gearbox must be used in four races, that's nothing new. New to me was that one of the gear ratios to do so. This means that you can not vote from race to race the course, but a compromise between the next four races to drive.
Since I have to enter the race in the brand new review. Suppose you drive since start of the season in the rotation, we have the gear this weekend along with gradation of Silverstone in the rear.
This allows me to reverse the presumption, the "sacrifice" a super brain sometimes a GP to have an advantage to the other three.
Astray. I did not know and do not find it too well.

Anyone who thinks because of such an idiotic rule? The shelf life for me is perfectly understandable and even reasonable, but why should the same remain Abstuffungen? I do not understand ...

After the first live pictures reminds me of the track and in front of all the restrictions but much of the city courses in the USA, only here the price is probably a lot faster.

  8. DonDahlmann 22nd August 2008 at 10:36 #

@ Sperro: this is not true.

    Sporting Regulations, Article 28.6:
    a) Each driver may use no more than one gearbox for four consecutive Events # in which his team competes
"Each driver is allowed to use in four consecutive races only one gear.

    d) At each Event seals may be broken once, under supervision and at any time prior to the second day of practice, for the sole purpose of changing gear ratios and dog rings

"At each subsequent event may the seals are broken each time, only to eventually change to be before the start of the first skills training and supervision of the gear ratios to change the dog-rings."

You can read the FIA sporting regulations in that it here for download are

Sorry for the duck. Either I've misunderstood or was misinformed yesterday.
Have a room swap no system on the computer, so here are the times Deep link to a report, it should be.
    Perhaps someone might check times.

  10. DonDahlmann 22nd August 2008 at 11:36 #

Power and still nothing but thanks for the tip!

  11. Promtheus 22nd August 2008 at 12:50 #

@ Sperro: I have it and seen, and it was just understood. So thanks for the clarification of DonDahlmann me also :-)

Oh great, now I was so looking forward to the new route, and then I penne a half after the workout, because I've watched the Olympics all night and then goes even Vettel fastest time! I can really annoy me, but thankfully it did indeed lack premiere live sporting enough space for Repetitions ^ ^

Again on the subject of safety concerns: the transition to the bridge probably makes others worry Bridgestone, Marc Surer said, however, the constant driving over the curbs would be much worse. Let's see who's right. I could well do without punctures.

  12. 22nd dogfood August 2008 at 14:20 #

So in the way watching the (recorded) 1th qualifying I must say that I find the track as aseptic and smooth that I like in a computer game vorkomme (and promptly feel like getting Test Drive Unlimited ride again, which of course so a port sector have ...)

  13. Promtheus 22nd August 2008 at 14:51 #

I again ^ ^ subject of safety in Valencia: can it be that in the curve 1 in such a way enes Safer Barrier at the edge of the discharge zone have? You can see that, unfortunately, usually only briefly and from a bird's eye view, but when I saw it correctly, since only the wall, then tire pile, then as a single block, the red-colored and thus easily recognizable, and it is twice as a barrier. So it looks like a safer barrier with additional tire in between.

  14. Wolli 22nd August 2008 at 19:50 #

get updated very often because some Safer Walls verteilt.Guter at the track approach, but why are almost all just a series stack of tires? So the absolute Klopper, the target curve from the left onboard a wall at right angles, but secured with ner Safer Wall, but in the place I want to see any strike that would hurt.
