NASCAR & Sky / A1 GP Australia / BTCC: New TV Deal

NASCAR: It's Sky. And now?
As already reported that NASCAR made a deal with the Rupert Murdoch empire belonging to the Sky Group has closed. And this for two years. The decision is somewhat surprising, even if this had been announced in recent days. It was fixed but generally assumed that NASCAR would complete the deal with ESPN, in any case, it can make its European channel NASN to ESPN in the rebranding known. NASN is now without the Sprint Cup in UK / Ireland because it loses an important driving force. It is now time to speculate on why NASCAR has made a deal with Sky, but the subject of money is likely to have played a role. Sky is a little under pressure through the Setana group have been part of football broadcasting rights and the EU was the previous deal between the Premier League and Sky not too happy. Sky Sports is doing so well to provide themselves with more attractive offers. In the English speaking forums Weeping is accordingly large, depending on which subscription you have. Even the spectators are Setana still assumed that they can see the NASCAR.

And what does that mean for Germany? The first thought that one is, is the fact that Murdoch has acquired but 15% of Premiere. Since he could certainly be ... No, he could not. On the part of the NASCAR says explicitly that Sky holds the rights only for UK / Ireland and no more. Even if Murdoch buy premiere tonight and tomorrow at 100% rename it to "sky" would, he could not broadcast the Sprint Cup in Germany. As far as I am aware, it is also impossible to buy a Sky Sports subscription in Germany, unless one buys the associated clutter in the UK and knows someone that buys a subscription for one.

The situation has become for the German fans so absolutely not improved, as some believe. However, I have again sent a request to someone in NASCAR, with the deulichen Please, tell me about times the current situation of the TV rights in Germany. After UK is clear, too, then what might come.

A1 GP - Eastern Creek
The race of the A1 had a relatively high entertainment value, because it was raining in torrents. As soon as you start you got a taste of what is going on this year in Formula One, when it rains. Upon approval, nothing happened only once, because all are either very carefully let the clutch, or stood still with pointless spinning tires. Only the South Africans and also Michael Ammermüller came well forward. The German had landed in training only at # 13, and worked his way quickly to the front. Really well, he came after his good start but not anymore, and so ended his race and seventh place. Front, it went quite well to the point, however, retained most of the drivers also have a cool head and waited for the guy in front would make a mistake under pressure. It happened here and there before, but for an A1 race went forward it to almost static. In midfield, fought against it and a lot of riders were pleased with the generous sized run-off areas and the lush greenery. Really angry flew from none what so ever is also a benefit. A remarkable achievement was the South African Adrian Zaugg in the main Renne, of the race was pretty confidently decide for themselves, and thus South Africa back to fourth place hoisted the national rankings, which now looks like this:

First New Zealand 96
Second France 96
Third Switzerland 93
4th South Africa 79
5th Germany 77

The A1 engines do well and like 250 hp less than the Formula One. In addition, they have a broader power band and not so nervous response to the accelerator. When the amount of spins you've seen in Eastern Creek, you can imagine what's going on in a race in Formula One. But thanks to the asphalt run-off areas there should also represent a big problem, but rather the voltage to be beneficial.

And what else?
The BTCC has announce today that it signed a new TV deal. The same time but unfortunately the old, and remains outside MotorsTV. In England, the coverage is extended to ITV, however, radiates the game from non-territorial table, but only via satellite / cable. It is also unfortunate that the BTCC is still to be seen no longer in Germany. The races there are usually really good and very exciting to drive along the beautiful traditional courses such as Thruxton, Oulton Park and Knockhill.

SKY Sports acquires rights NASCAR

What had been announced in recent days have been so just officially confirmed Sky . Sky Sports will transmit in 2008 and 2009 series, but the Sprint Cup, Nationwide Series does not, which will continue "as-live" transfer on NASN. How big is the scope of the rights package (only if UK / Ireland or even Europe), is not known. I just asked again in the U.S., just as is now the venue in Germany. The market is now even slightly smaller than in the UK. Let's see what happens.

Interestingly, the sale of the rights to Sky but is already back and makes me a little surprised by the question: What the hell is ESPN doing there anyway?
