Small note: The Podcast has unusual high download speeds. On average, the last two editions of 6,000 listeners have been downloaded. The numbers are very happy, but we trust them not quite, because we can only rely on the internal statistics module from Libsyn. I suspect that the podcast will be counted as a relevant article, and the player times this week behind a "further step on the gas" click banished. Just to see if the numbers change significantly then. The podcast is available on the flash player in the side bar under the chat at any time on our front page. Thank you for your understanding.

Formula 1 test drives and mini-News 02/08/2012

Of caution February 8, 2012 at 18:44 in Formula One

The second day of testing at Jerez in the past, Michael Schumacher and Mercedes had the lead. Offers clues but no - it was in fact go with the old car. Sky reveals little further to the "new" program concept 2012th

Behind Schumacher, who won with 132 rounds, at least one Mange driving experience, this time placed Mark Webber as the best new car drivers ranked second More than six tenths adrift of last year's car, however, indicate that there should be a lot of room for improvement. The good first impression of Toro Rosso confirmed yesterday Daniel Ricciardo finished third, about four tenths behind. Real significance of these would certainly not have time. But after all: The new cars for the Red Bull Junior Team seems at first to run quite well, the time is roughly at the level that has reached yesterday Kimi Raikkonen. The same applies for Force India, the new test driver Jules Bianchi scored with 1.6 seconds behind the honorary title of "Best place for a new car without Red Bull sponsorship." The fact that he was almost half a second slower than team-mate yesterday, di Resta, however, shows that you probably also with the Indians today was not time to hunt. Next step on the gas ...

Formula One: Jerez testing 07-02-2012 / sky extended F1 rights

DonDahlmann of February 7, 2012 at 21:07 in F1 , Formula One

The first day of this year's test weeks is over. Can of course say anything yet.

The times that we have today can be driven, nor to any conclusion. That alone shows the simple fact that Raikkonen is at the top of the list. The time is marginally better than what Rubens Barrichello, last year has shown in the Williams. And how good is the FW33 was still known to everyone. Dern special characteristics, there was no today, we continue wondering about the hole in the snout of the RB8. Adrian Newey says that the hole is only used to ventilate the driver, but he really believes this (still) no. Reference times you will see only when the teams test in Barcelona.

And then there's news from sky ...

Formula One: Williams FW34 pictures

DonDahlmann of February 7, 2012 at 10:20 in F1 , Formula One

We ship to more pictures when they upload Williams. But first impressions: The FW34 seems to be just a tad bit uglier than the rest And you drive more or less with no sponsors on the car. As will be clear why Senna and Maldonado compete this year.

Formula one: Toro Rosso pictures STR7

DonDahlmann of February 7, 2012 at 00:03 in F1 , Formula One

The new Toro Rosso STR7 has the usual level in the nose. However, a few interesting details.

Three cars in one day, and all rely on a stage in the front. The new STR7 is no exception, but the level did not turn out quite as hard as the Ferrari and Sauber . An opening, as in RB8 is not but one. Interestingly, the side pods, which are already very sharp and high. It is also interesting because Toro Rosso Ferrari engine sets. The Reds have their side pods, but by far at the sides not so closely fitted, but put on a straight line.
Interesting are the "gills" which are located in the rear and can be seen only in the direct side view. Obviously you want to capture this additional cooling air for the transmission and illuminate the lower diffuser.

Formula One: Red Bull Pictures RB8

DonDahlmann of February 6, 2012 at 14:19 in F1 , Formula One

Here are the first pictures of the RB8. Right now, the media side of Red Bull does not work, follow the HQ pictures!

What ever notice: Red Bull is in stage one air inlet to the monocoque. This should go off the speculation, which has verbrigt behind. When air is passed through the chassis to the rear? Or to the coolers from the KERS, which last year was very susceptible to heat? Adrian Newey has definitely provided a talking point again.

Formula One: Sauber C31 pictures

DonDahlmann of February 6, 2012 at 11:16 in F1 , Formula One

Are no big surprises at Sauber, at least when it comes to cars. Behind the scenes, however, is doing something.

Somewhat stunned Formula One has taken the world that lead designer James Key has left the team with immediate effect. The reasons behind his departure are not clear, but the team announced that the position is not filled. Already last year, Peter Sauber had intimated that with the work of Key was not always satisfied. Although Sauber showed a couple of good races and the year was out without a blown diffuser, the World Cup result after Force India has been somewhat disappointing. You should have a hair can also happen Toro Rosso. Key will have a working lock in its resolution agreement, which will probably take a couple of months. I'm sure that he will soon appear in another team.

Formula One: Lotus E20 Pictures & Video

DonDahlmann of February 5, 2012 at 17:16 in F1 , Formula One

Lotus has unveiled its new police cars. The said vehicle is E20 also has the "crocodile nose."

Lots to see there is not yet shown on the photographs. What is striking is so far only that the step in the nose is a bit flat, indicating that Renault has created the monocoque itself a little less high. In the video you can see something of the stern, but I'm sure that Lotus does not show the last stand here. The exhaust rises somewhat unmotivated from the cowling.

From the back you can see the car so far and not actions, but for all the previously shown car. The teams try because obviously their solutions to the tests to be kept as secret as possible. In recent weeks, Lotus had the problem that the new "J-damper ', as the manual height adjustment on the front suspension, was banned by the FIA. Apparently it has something like that but still in store.

Formula One: Ferrari F2012 first images of the Force India & VJM005

DonDahlmann of February 3, 2012 at 12:02 in F1 , Formula One

Ferrari and Force India have today unveiled their 2012er chassis. As expected, the cars have not become quite as pretty.

The messages that transpired over the new Ferrari F2012 in Maranello in recent weeks described the car, especially as "ugly". Well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but unusually, the new Ferrari is in any case. The stairs to the crocodile's nose is steep, less flattened, as is perhaps the Caterham or Force India, the case. Even before the presentation was clear, that would show this season, many drivers of this feature, but the level then to actually see, but what is different. Reminder: The stage comes from the new FIA regulations, which prescribes a maximum height of the tip of 550mm above the floor plate, while the end of the monocoque should have a height of 650mm. Solve the problem most teams with a stage, apart from McLaren, go to a markedly different way. Here they built the entire vehicle including monocoque lower, which has allowed a flat nose. WEC / Le Mans: The list of participants 2012

StefanTegethoff of February 3, 2012 at 03:06 in 24-Hour Le Mans , Motor Sport , WEC

Yesterday, the ACO, the list of participants for the inaugural season of the World Endurance Championship and for the 24 Hours of Le Mans has announced - and there are some surprises here!

Might was right after Peugeot's pullout, speculated that Audi's commitment without real opponents something back, it was now the other way around: less than four work-R18 use the Ingolstadt, two conventional TDI and two of the new hybrid diesel . First Le Mans winner to be a hybrid vehicle, should be the top priority in the event that problems occur, two conventional car as a backup are included. The WEC will go two-hybrid R18, but probably only after Le Mans. At Sebring, Spa and opted instead to three conventional diesel to be launched. Next step on the gas ...
