Ecclestone wanted $160m for a five year deal, Montreal wants to pay no more than $100m. Ecclestone’s deal would require an initial annual payment of $26m, with a 10% increase per year pushing it up to $38m per annum during the five years. This is pretty much the going rate for events at the moment, although some of the new races in Asia and the Middle East have paid more.

Gil de Ferran has announced that he is to retire from the cockpit at the end of this year's American Le Mans Series and has confirmed his intention to run a two-car IndyCar Series operation in 2010 alongside his sportscar team.

That’s not the answer; it is something much more subtle than that. We may have done something to the car to make it more sensitive.”

Davide Valsecchi will not finish the season at Durango, the team has confirmed. The team announced in an official statement that it will set the driver free from any contractual obligations, meaning Valsecchi will not be at the wheel of a Durango at next weekend's European Grand Prix.
