Martin Brundle über den Tod von Henry Surtees
When we got home we went immediately onto the internet and followed the stories until Henry’s death was announced. I knew those stories could just as likely have been about my son, or anyone else’s. I can’t even begin to imagine what John and Jane Surtees and their family and friends are going through. To outlive your child is any parent’s worst nightmare. They will have to cope with his A-level results arriving and with anniversaries. My heart goes out to them.

Massa's crisis, it may not be so easy for a younger generation of Formula One fans to grasp, would once have been greeted as routine hazard, the kind which claimed the lives of such superb drivers as Jim Clark and Ayrton Senna and once threatened the three-times world champion Niki Lauda with incineration at Nürburgring.

Schumacher doch vor Rückkehr?
"The whole thing will be considered by Ferrari. If they approach Michael, then he will consider it," the seven-time champion's spokeswoman told BBC Sport -
The car is not loading its tyres hard enough to generate the necessary temperatures but the puzzling thing is how this tendency has been accentuated sometime in between the Istanbul race and the Hungarian one so that it is now apparent, even in conditions that did not bring it out before.

On the back of further encouraging signs about Massa's condition following the fractured skull he suffered in his qualifying accident for the Hungarian Grand Prix, doctors are now hopeful that he may be able to leave the AEK Hospital in Budapest soon.

With neither Badoer nor Gené thought likely to be given the seat, there was immediate speculation that Schumacher might make a sensational comeback, which was initially ruled out by his manager. However, Ferrari sources say all options are open.

Every significant accident is investigated by the FIA Institute for Motor Sport Safety, established in 2004 by Professor Sidney Watkins, the top British neurosurgeon and Formula One safety delegate before his retirement. In view of Massa's accident it was timely that a recent report from the institute investigated threshold loads for skull fractures during helmeted impacts.

Although it wasn't a secret anymore, the Ferrari engine in the STR4 is clearly running much hotter than the Renault

In the wake of Surtees's death and Massa's accident what direction will the FIA take now?
One option would be to consider a removable tubular frame in front of the driver to keep out larger pieces of debris and also prevent other cars riding up towards the cockpit in a collision.
The problem with this concept is the evacuation of the driver in an accident and ensuring the frame can't inflict further damage itself in heavy contact. And it would look seriously ugly.

Formel Eins: Genesungswünsche der F1 Stars
Category F1
